Like others, the whole of apples and pears, pips, stalks and all. Same with oranges, tangerines etc. The lot gets eaten, the peel is my fave part.

DrMidgeryMargery · 03/03/2019 13:56

Omg, fellow sponge eaters! Except I’ve been a sponge nibbler since I was a kid. The craving went up when I was pregnant, and I’ve tried not to do it since I had DD 😁

CigarsofthePharoahs · 03/03/2019 13:57

I had a patch of craving powder detergent. Don't know why, there was one brand in particular that just smelt soooo good.
I used to work with someone who ate the packing noodles from deliveries.

MamaWeasel · 03/03/2019 13:59

Chalk here oo. And plaster off the walls if I can get it. Blush

TrainSong · 03/03/2019 14:01

I used to eat sponges as a kid. Loved the flavour. I used to suck gravel when pregnant - Pica.
Now - just my cuticles. Disgusting habit but I can't stop.

ChodeofChodeHall · 03/03/2019 14:02

Ice cubes!

I hope you don't crunch them: this can cause microscopic cracks in your teeth, into which bacteria can enter. You could end up with an abscess, which is the worst pain in the whole world - worse than childbirth.

Giggorata · 03/03/2019 14:53

Never have I done this, even when pregnant...Shock

ChakiraChakra · 03/03/2019 14:59

.... What the what now?! Shock

I once was absentmindedly swigged my tangerine shower gel after sniffing it, (it was revolting, as I would have known had my nose not temporarily overruled my brain) but I don't think I've ever deliberately eaten anything non-food. What on earth makes sponges seem attractive to eat?!

BertieBotts · 03/03/2019 15:04

Um - what??

That said, I like to chew the little T-shaped plastic things that hold tags onto clothing, and pen lids. I don't swallow either of them but I probably ingest an unhealthy amount of the chemicals.

candlefloozy · 03/03/2019 15:06

Nails and skin around my nails.

magpie24 · 03/03/2019 15:08

If you're craving chalk or sand or similar it's often an iron deficiency. Worth getting it checked out

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 03/03/2019 15:11

Vaseline- I love the taste of it.

pigsDOfly · 03/03/2019 15:16

I've never heard of anyone doing this except perhaps on some weird (usually American) television programme that I might happen across while channel surfing.

Aren't you afraid you're going to cause yourself harm?

Valdy · 03/03/2019 15:19

32 weeks pregnant at the moment and I can't stop eating ice (but trying to stick to ice lollies, I don't want to crack my teeth 😩) and I can't stop smelling cleaning products, especially anti bac wet wipes from Aldi, I just sit and sniff them. I'd eat them if I could (I'm so close to)

Notso · 03/03/2019 15:21

Cases from fairy cakes etc.
I have a chewing 'thing' as well.
As I child I used to chew my school cardigans and my hair.
Now I love biting plastic barbs from clothes tags, I chew them for ages until my gums hurt. I thought I was secretive about it but my daughter silently handed me one the other day!
Same with pen lids but only the bic crystal biro ones.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 03/03/2019 15:24

You are all fucking maniacs!!

Strangely though the one that's made my stomach turn the most is the books one 🤮

Hoopaloop · 03/03/2019 15:31

Bath towels.

pigsDOfly · 03/03/2019 15:32

The one that made my stomach heave was the bogie eating. Can barely bring myself to type it.

I'm just amazed that people don't end up being seriously ill from eating some of these things.

BertieBotts · 03/03/2019 15:37

Notso are you me?? Grin I don't eat cake cases though. But used to suck and chew my school cardigan (I especially liked the one that tasted like fish n chip crisps, and I didn't like the squeaky sound of chewing acrylic jumpers)

I had bunk beds with my sister and there were bite marks all around the wooden guard rails where I used to sink my teeth into it Blush

I assume it's a sensory thing. Thinking about it I had a watch with a rubbery strap that I eventually chewed my way through.

OddestSock · 03/03/2019 15:42

Ooh, lots of fellow sponge eaters! I'm one too!

cleanasawhistle · 03/03/2019 15:45

When I was a kid I used to eat my mums lipstick

Soubriquet · 03/03/2019 15:47

Before I was on strong iron tablets I suffered from pica.

I used to eat plastic, craved it badly actually and even had a preference for a particular type.

Children’s coat hangers from m and co were a particular favourite but cd cases were close follow.

I ate them for years. Even whilst pregnant.

I was put on iron tablets just over a year ago and I’ve not touched plastic since.

I do still chew my nails and my lip but they are a bit more organic

VictoriaBun · 03/03/2019 15:49

When I was pregnant, candle wax. Would light a plain white candle, hold it on it's side until the wax dripped off and then when is was semi solid I'd pop it into my mouth.

LunafortJest · 03/03/2019 16:14

Cardboard. Packing cardboard, the circle that you pop out on the box of cask wine, any type of cardboard. I like the taste of whatever chemicals are in the cardboard, though I don't actually eat it meaning swallow it. I just chew it and it and suck on it the way you do with chewing gum. And put it in the bin after I've had enough of it.

PivotPivotPivottt · 03/03/2019 16:18

Another pregnant sponge eater here
Dry sponge/wet sponge/soapy sponge (Radix eucalyptus shower gel to be precise)

Also ate the bubbles in my bubble bath while pregnant and sniffed cleaning products.
