After all this momo business I just found my 5 year old searching it. He had the laptop for 5 minutes while I popped into the kitchen. Our school has already spoken to some pupils about this and have decided not to speak to the whole school for fear of scaring kids who are unaware of it.

Anyway I have just googled how to block certain keywords.

I will be spending the evening doing this and any other horrid things I can think of.

It's a hoax, isn't it? Why has everyone suddenly gone mad panicking about something that doesn't exist? Of course now people are panicking, people will find it amusing to stick it in videos

Even if it’s a hoax if you google it pictures will come up that could be upsetting for a five year old, so not really relevant if it’s a hoax or not. I find that puppet thing creepy.

Because kids have been talking about it and scaring each other at school. Which leads to other kids actively searching it. Hoax or not it's horrible.

I really hope that even after these have been added, you're not going to let him have unsupervised access to the devices. A 5 year old doesn't need to use a laptop or phone, especially not when they have unsupervised access. Also adding filters doesn't make the internet a safer place. It just means you'll be more lax with supervision, as you'll think he won't be able to stumble across anything harmful.

We had a power cut the other evening when my ds had woken up and the landing light went out. He was petrified and said something about momo. But in my half asleep state it didn't twig so yes it does affect. And he hasn't seen it at this point just heard from kids at school. We have as many filters on you can imagine and he isn't left unattended apart from when I popped to the kitchen. It took 5 minutes!

Completely agree but on the flip side what this is doing is teaching parents they need to be more robust with their internet security. Not because of the momo hoax but because there are genuinely people out there who were letting their children have unsupervised access and now won't.

Even as an adult the momo picture gives me the creeps, it keeps popping into my mind when I'm in the dark! All very horrible, even if it was a hoax. Maybe you can agree with him to set up a playlist - you both sit down together and search for videos he's interested in (and that you have vetoed) and save them to the playlist - when he wants to watch youtube he's only allowed to watch it from there. Also if you're able to show youtube on the TV then you can play the playlist and hide the remote!

Good idea dinner. Will do that too. He is normally very good but curiosity got the better of him. I walked back in as he typed it and he found a BBC video about it being a hoax and I said he's not allowed to look it up or watch it as it's not good. He said ok sorry. I will be speaking to his teacher as kids in his class have been talking about it and obviously they need a chat too

Ahh YouTube stokes again. Do NOT let your kids on there. Uninstall it. There are many places they can watch kid's shows online without the risk. Even after this momo nonsense is dead and gone something new will spring up. YouTube will cough up videos of death, corpses, murder, drug use and so on without any reasonable filters in place. It would be too hard to police as it's a public platform which is HUGE. Just uninstall it on phones and block it on computers before your kid sees something REALLY scarring.

DDs class were full of excitement about it today! Momo appeared in one of her friends sitting rooms, Momo turned into a character in another of her friends games, Momo pops up on Netflix, Momo took over the news etc etc

I am probably the last person to discover this but you can set up ‘guided access’ on iPhone under settings. If you open an app and then triple click it will lock that app open. Unable to come out of it, change volume, anything. You need code or your fingerprint to unlock and come out of it again. I’ve found it very handy to prevent DS roaming my phone.
