in thinking I can't gift this?

My 4yo DD has been invited to a birthday party of a boy who goes to her nursery. I went shopping today to find a gift. Picked up a Mickey Mouse Police station in home bargains. £6.99 bargain. I've just realised it's so inapppropriate. His dad has just this week been given a suspended prison sentence. I can not gift this present can I? Even if the boy has no idea his family obviously do. It's been in the local newspapers so it's a pretty well known situation. I genuinely never put 2 and 2 together until now!

Looks like another trip into town. I was debating between 3 different Mickey Mouse toys. Trust I would pick the only one that was completely inappropriate Blush

Are the child's parents still together? And what was the crime? I know this isn't the point of the post but is it just me who would be questioning whether I wanted my child involved with theirs depending on the answer to these questions? Hmm

Nothing like blaming a child for their parent’s actions! Maybe you feel the child should be segregated from the other children at nursery, just in case he tries to get them to carry out criminal activities, after all he shouldn’t be allowed to be in the same room as the children with ”good parents”, should he??”
With attitudes like yours I am sure there would be far more chance of this poor child (who has lost a parent, through no fault of his own), feeling guilty and hitting out at the world! There’s nothing like kicking someone while they are down. Perhaps you think the op should ask the nursery to ban him, you know “Sins of the Father” etc.
Hopefully the nursery parents are not as mean, vindictive and nasty as you!

Oh no! At least you realised ahead of time. Buy something else and stick this toy in a cupboard and gift it at the next party where the parents don’t have any legal woes.

@Hahaha88 The childs parents are still together. I don't want to go into detail as it may be outing but it was a non-violent crime, with the only 'victim' being a multi-million pound company. It's not a party for the dad. It's just a little boy inviting his school friends, there is no reason at all to not attend.

@Hahaha88 It's not the child's fault.

My DP's brother was sent to prison for ABH when he was achild and lost all of his friends and was no longer allowed to see any of them. It affected him badly and had nothing to do with him.

OP, you definitely can't give him that however it was very good you put two and two together before the party.

Thankfully the rest of us realise the six year old most likely wasn’t part of a double act 🙄

It’s a birthday party, I doubt he’s going to o be teaching them all how to steal the Crown Jewels. FFS

His dad just might see the humor in it, but maybe not.

Many years ago I was buying a card for a woman I knew who two sons and some other relatives were drowned at sea in a tragic boating accident. At the check-out I realized the card had a picture of the ocean on the front so I quickly put it back and picked another without a nautical theme.

I shouldn't think the police are their favourite people at the moment, so it's probablt better to put the Mickey Mouse police in the spare presents box and get something less controversial.
