To claim for 30 hours?

I have just returned to work after a few years as a SAHM. I have been told I qualify for 30 hours childcare for DS (3). He only has a 15 hour place (2.5 days 9-3) which is topped up with wraparound which we currently pay for.

I only work 1.5 days ( with another .5 or so from home) however it is quite well paid so I meet the threshold for 30 hours funding. However DH is quite well paid and we have small out goings so don’t actually need it, but I am told we could claim 30 hours and use it to pay for the wrap around. ( approx £150 a month).

WIBU to claim for the extra childcare?

YANBU if you're entitled to it, imo

If you get the funding for childcare and need the childcare, use it! 😂

Merryoldgoat · 27/02/2019 21:05

Of course not! Claim it.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/02/2019 21:05

No problem at all in claiming for it. Have you actually got your code though? It’s unclear who you’ve spoken to about it. You need to apply to HMRC via childcare choices website.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/02/2019 21:08

The only other thing i wanted to mention is that you’d need to check if your wrap around carer will accept the funding for it, not all do or may have rules on tines it can be used.

ATBhinchers · 27/02/2019 21:10

How do you check the rules for the 30 hours? Is it different for every nursery etc?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/02/2019 21:13

Yes it is, just ask them if and how they deliver the 30 hours.

Wifeofapostie · 27/02/2019 21:19

Each nursery sets their own criteria for accepting funded hours. You may find you can only use funded hours 9-12 and 12:30-3, therefore needing to pay pre 9am and after 3 plus whatever they charge for lunch. It's worth asking tho and if they accept then you should defiantly use it to reduce your childcare bill.

Take it if you are entitled to and can use it.

We’re entitled but couldn’t get a 30 hour place for love nor government money here #bittermoi?
