It was so lovely- especially the Michael Angelo - but there was No emotion Not a scream, tear or tremble in sight - WTF?

It's nothing to do with damaging art work or not, I think it's wrong because it's a crucially important place of worship and those who care a lot about that, don't want photos inside it. Those are the rules. It's nobody's public "right" to take a photograph.

It's also the same in other religious places such as Westminster abbey.

And for sad reasons, it is also banned inside some exhibits at auschwitz. However when I was there, while groups were taking photos inside where the hair is 😔 They were told not to, and did anyway. Who the hell do they think they are?

It's just utterly disrespectful to take photos where it is not allowed. If you don't like it, don't go in the first place.

Or do what the rest of us do and just gaze in wonder (or horror) and internalise your memories. Trying to sneakily take photos of somewhere like the Sistine chapel is just pathetic and rather sad that people don't have confidence in their own memories.

And if you want to see what it's like again later, there are official photos which are much better than anything an amateur tourist can snap.

To me, it's a no brainer and I hope more places of importance ban snaps.

If someone was to start screaming in the Sistine chapel, can you imagine the fall out? Everyone being shushed and whispering and all of a sudden a woman starts screaming and trying to levitate?! It would certainly brighten up their afternoon.

carrotflinger · 27/02/2019 15:25

Officially I’m a twit - I thought the basilica was the same as the Sistene- ho hum will have to go back to Rome - I expect at that point I’ll levitate

Please do... and report back on whether you levitated or not.

I think I would have been tempted just to let a little squeak out just to see if any mumsnetters were aroundGrin

twattymctwatterson · 27/02/2019 17:25

Did you not even feel like you could levitate up to it?

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 27/02/2019 17:51

Point of order - I believe in the original thread it was 'leverate', not 'levitate'.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 27/02/2019 18:05

What kind of emotionally stunted weirdo DOESNT scream at the sistine chapel?

Dyrne · 27/02/2019 18:19

When I went I almost wee’d myself in the room with the Raphael’s just before the Chapel.

Not because i’m an art lover, mind, just because it was a much longer tour than I expected and my pelvic floor isn’t what it used to be Blush

GreyRoses · 27/02/2019 18:22

@Dyrne 😆 My students felt the same way!! It's a long tour.

altiara · 27/02/2019 18:52

Can’t believe it’s been a year!
OP you need to book another Rome trip immediately and report back after being such a tease!

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 27/02/2019 18:54

If you didn't scream at its beauty surely some doubled up sobbing at the saddnes of it...

Gardenowl · 27/02/2019 21:57

Thanks for the link to the previous thread rocky. It is all making sense now. I am disappointed in myself for missing that thread. How did I manage that

BlueJeansNiceTop · 27/02/2019 23:36

You need to read the article properly @GreyRoses - there's no actual reason photography is not allowed Smile

GreyRoses · 28/02/2019 04:39

@BlueJeansNiceTop the reason is they don't want it. End of. Their right. Just as it is in other places of religion to decide and other places for other reasons. To not comply is arrogant and disrespectful to both the place and the custodians of it imo.

mathanxiety · 28/02/2019 05:00

It's not primarily a tourist attraction, so no photography is allowed. It's a place of worship. The idea is that you take in the wonder of it and have some sort of spiritual experience.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 28/02/2019 05:26

When we went to the Sistine chapel dd was 7. She found the whole thing a bit boring after a while.

So she decided to amuse herself by pretending to be Sharpay from High School Musical. (This was 10 years ago and she was a big fan)

As we finished the tour and got to the cafe she decided to treat my parents and the nuns at the next table to a full dance routine complete with a bit of a pole dance and a 7 year old's best attempts at sexy dancing. I came back from the loo to find my mum looking on indulgently and applauding her.

The nuns did not join in the applause Blush

Ferfeckssake · 28/02/2019 07:05

If you say you went to the Sistine Chapel and didn't want to scream , then
" You weren't there , man! "
HmmWonder if MNers will get the reference?
