As a Catholic this does not in any way shake my faith.

At the same time, I cannot disagree with Didiusfalco. Not for one moment.

SeaEagleFeather most long standing religions have dark and murky pasts. Which I s my problem with organised religion.

I stopped considering myself catholic, after a catholic education up until I was 18 and then going into to study the religion more I have several theological based qualifications. And all made me dislike organised religion.

It's not just the catholic church. And if someone was making sweeping generalisations about Islam, based on some horrific things that imans have done or saying people should denounce Islam because some imans are bastards, there would up roar mn would pull it in all probability.

I don't like the catholic church. But don't think they have behaved worse than other religions

Nonibaloni apologies, I was referring to the ops tales of priests taking money off poor people. I do agree that these should have been and could have been dealt with sooner.

But my point is that that could be said for most religions

It's amazing how people are allowed to make blanket judgements about Catholicism and its priest based on the fact that some disgusting people have become priests

It would be if that's what was happening, but it's not is it? Most of us have said that abusers are everywhere and it's hardly surprising they target "family" institutions such as churches of all types, but it's the action taken (or not) when this happens that surely counts

And in this the Catholic church - among others - has been sorely lacking
