Champagne Tea without the Tea

I was very kindly bought a Champagne Afternoon Tea in a very nice (expensive) local restaurant. Very nice.

We were given a glass of champagne on arrival and then when we went to order out tea with the afternoon tea we were told that was extra ... is that just weird & cheap. Surely tea is included in afternoon tea even f you have a champagne afternoon tea.

Shame I used really like this restaurant and have been there a few times, but it just seems cheap not to include it.

Anyway didn't ruin the afternoon, champagne drank, tea ordered, sandwiches and cakes scoffed.

Is it just me or is that strange?
Yep that was the only thing I had to be concerned about yesterday.

I wouldn’t want tea if I had also had champagne.

No it should be in addition to tea - it isn't afternoon tea without at least the offer of tea!

Yes, that's really strange. I've had a number of champagne teas and they always included tea and champagne!

The "afternoon tea" refers to the whole thing - sandwiches, cakes, scones, drink.

You chose to substitute the cup of tea for a glass of champagne.

The champagne teas I have had have included both,although paid extra for the champagne version. Guess you need to read the small print!

I'm with you OP - I'd assume that a pot of tea was included too

I don't drink tea, so always go for the sparkling option.

I always have to tell them I don't require tea also as they always set the table with tea cups etc and ask when id like it bringing out, so yes, I think they are being cheap!

I had a Champagne afternoon tea at a lovely restaurant for my hen do a few years back and it definitely included tea AND bubbly.

I’ve had several champagne teas. Always been served yes as well as the champagne.

The price of afternoon, which after all costs a couple of pounds to do yourself, should definetely include a pot of tea for the money. Write a review on their website.

I’d expect tea as well. The champagne option will have cost more so the tea, cakes, sandwiches bit should be the same.

Never had an afternoon tea without the tea? How bizarre! Doesn’t matter what kind I’ve had(Prosecco, champagne, cocktail, gin) always always get a pot of tea. Earl Grey preferably

I mean seriously afternoon tea is not cheap especially with champagne so to give you hot water and some tea is hardly going to cripple them is it now

That’s odd. Usually you get the standard afternoon tea or you can ‘upgrade’ to a champagne afternoon tea for more money but the champagne is on top, not instead of.

Tea was £3.25 (though on the bill £3.50 - I couldn't bother to point that out) no second helpings of anything.

So, the £10 difference was to cover the additional cost of a glass of champagne! They are cheeky fuckers asking extra for the tea - IMHO.

If the difference was £10 then I take back my comment. They can’t charge £10 PLUS the cost of a pot of tea for one glass of champagne!

Def taking the piss. I love an afternoon tea and have had many and various places and champagne afternoon tea has always been champagne AND tea or coffee. I'd be extremely pissed off.
