To be annoyed at lots of people saying I'm a lady of luxury having quit my job to take care of my twins full time? They are 1.

It is a luxury to be able to afford to be a SAHP, lots of people need two incomes to cover their outgoings

randomsabreuse · 25/02/2019 08:15

How many jobs cover childcare for 2? Twin discounts aren't that much of a thing with nurseries. Given how many women barely balance the books with 1 baby plus 30 hours with older child working could well be an unaffordable luxury, not staying at home!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 25/02/2019 08:15

I'm a SAHM because I can't afford to work, is that a luxury?

The highest salary I can earn in the area I live won't cover fuel, childcare and food.

I didn't realise I was living in such luxury!

SubparOwl · 25/02/2019 08:17

Ha! Tell them to have your twins for the day, see how they feel then.

ConfusedAngryWorried · 25/02/2019 08:26

I have twins it is £100-120 per day childcare. I work for my own sanity and cos otherwise it would set back my career 10yrs (5 not working and 5 to catch back up).
Hats off to you OP looking after twins is not being a lady of leisure!!

schoome · 25/02/2019 08:54

Thank you!! My thoughts exactly. I want to work but cant afford it.

A very silly view..
With children that age it cost a fortune to go to work!

schoome · 25/02/2019 09:22

I honestly wanted to cry. People must think that they go to school at 1 and I sit and home and relax. It's insane. Who do they think cares for the twins all day every day for no financial gain.

It's a luxury to be able to pay for childcare: lots of people don't earn enough for that. I was only able to work 1 day a week and even that came at a sacrifice for the whole family.

YANBU. Don't waste your energy arguing with idiots.

Meralia · 25/02/2019 09:32

ignore them OP. I had my first 2 kids 16 months apart a few years ago, before all this government funded childcare came out ( before age 3).

There’s no way I could have afforded to have gone back to work. So no, it definitely wasn’t a luxury, I would have given my back teeth to get back in the workplace. Some people just don’t understand that not everyone is in super high earning careers that can easily afford childcare, or that we don’t all have relatives to look after the kids for free.

schoome · 25/02/2019 11:56

People have no clue what childcare costs - yes it would be 100£ per day for twins. A friend of mine told me she couldn't do what I was doing - like I have a choice!?

Anyone got any clever comebacks?

U leave ur job at 'x time' love, I'm on 24/7

Bigonesmallone3 · 25/02/2019 17:23

I know, I'm very fortunate, I spend all day being pampered and going to fancy places for lunch 🙄 oh no wait
