To be so afraid

I’ve always been a bit of a worrier, and often don’t feel fully at ease with the world. But now, because of the internet i’ve got myself into a state of panic. I’m reading all sorts of conspiracy theories, things i come across accidentally, about stuff i really shouldn’t be reading about.

My biggest worry at the moment is the “new world order” and the plans they apparently have in store for us all. I just feel very despondent and scared for my children and the world they’ll have to live in when i’m no longer here. Please can anyone reassure me that it won’t be that bad.

OP posts:
Haggisfish · 23/02/2019 21:49

I don’t think it will come to fruition for at least a few generations yet.

Sparklesocks · 23/02/2019 21:50

Is the new order the one where people are secretly lizards?
Conspiracy theories are often just that, though. Making a YouTube video doesn’t mean it’s telling the truth.
A lot of people buy into conspiracy theories because it’s easier to believe the government/wealthy are controlling everything including weather, the shape of the earth and terrorism than the fact the world is chaotic and cruel and we can only do so much.
It might be best if you stay away from those parts of the internet.

saxatablesalt · 23/02/2019 21:51

Isn't the new world order a loony far right conspiracy theory?!?!

There are plenty of things to worry about in today's world, but I would be prepared to bet a good deal that that is not one of them.

Lifecraft · 23/02/2019 21:52

The New World Order doesn't exist. It was dreamt up far right Americans so they could keep their guns to resist it. David Icke and Alex Jones believe in the NWO...proof that it's cobblers.

If you believe crap like this, I don't think the internet is for you.

Mishappening · 23/02/2019 21:53

I think you should consider very hard who you think "they" are. That might help you to rationalise this.

Obsidian77 · 23/02/2019 21:53

It's nonsense.
Stop reading bollocks stories on the Internet.
Watch the news on TV, or read a newspaper, these have proper, verifiable editorial policies and hire actual journalists.

Smotheroffive · 23/02/2019 21:57

You can 'find' whatever you want on the internet, its all there, so if you search in a more positive direction you'll find positivity too,and that would serve you much better.

It's a bit like being terrified and watching horror films...just don't. Step away from stupid conspiracy theories, until you feel you can take a balanced view on them.

savanna22 · 23/02/2019 22:28

So do you think this new world order or more specifically “agenda21” isn’t true. Most countries have signed up to it apparently. Will it be for our good?

OP posts:
saxatablesalt · 23/02/2019 22:29

Apparently according to who? What verifiable reliable sources are you getting this from?

MitziK · 23/02/2019 22:29

It's all bollocks.

Watch something else, like cookery or cleaning videos. Far more relaxing and actually have some vague basis in fact

Wolfiefan · 23/02/2019 22:29

What makes you think it does? Be logical and rational.

showerpower · 23/02/2019 22:30

Utter nonsense, stop watching / reading rubbish

UghFletcher · 23/02/2019 22:31

I suggest you watch some funny cat videos OP, a much more positive experience of the internet

saxatablesalt · 23/02/2019 22:32

Seriously what are you on about? Agenda 21 is a non binding UN agreement to sustainable development.

The conspiracy theory is lead by right wing climate change deniers.

MereDintofPandiculation · 23/02/2019 22:33

All the search engines etc work by putting things you appear to be interested in near the top. So once you start reading these thing, you get shown more of the same, until you start to feel it must be true because you're seeing so much of it. But there isn't so much of it, it's just that it's all being presented to you in preference to anything that would show a different view.

FissionChip5 · 23/02/2019 22:33

You can’t be serious.

Sparklesocks · 23/02/2019 22:36

Why do you think it’s true? Where did you read it? reputable, verifiable sources? or on blogs and badly edited YouTube videos?
Just because a group of people post something on the web does that mean it’s real?

savanna22 · 23/02/2019 22:38

Well i know i sound ridiculous and irrational. I’ve been having visions of a world like in the Hunger games.

OP posts:
saxatablesalt · 23/02/2019 22:40

The hunger games is fiction.

I dream of Harry Potter being real, but that doesn't mean he is!

Wolfiefan · 23/02/2019 22:40

Stay off such sites.
And if you can’t rationalise these fears away seek RL help. This isn’t normal or healthy.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 23/02/2019 22:42

Well, the new world order is bollocks.

But climate change? That’s what you should really be worried about. It’s fucking terrify8ng.

I suggest you read reputable news sources more widely to be better informed.

Micom · 23/02/2019 22:43

Have you actual read Agenda21? Or just the conspiracy theories around it? If you have a read it's a very sensible about sustainability and as pp said, non binding.

AhhhHereItGoes · 23/02/2019 22:43

Conspiracy theories are like urban legends with a slight chance of validity and/or vague enough to be near impossible to prove or disprove.

I'm a worrier too and I find them fascinating but really if many of these were real there would be leaked information, photos, whistleblowers etc - no organisation is completely hidden even very very niche sects or occultist groups.

Dr Grimes came up with a mathematical equation on how long it would take a given conspiracy to be proven if true. It's very sobering.

Even if the worst game to the worst - deal with today which you can do something about, not the future which you cannot.

That made me sound a lot wiser than I am.

Gettingnowhere · 23/02/2019 22:44

You're right, OP, to say that the world is changing. There are all sorts of things going on that people know very little about. The Internet is full of misinformation. But don't give up hope. Things may not be as bad as you fear

Sparklesocks · 23/02/2019 22:44

Its important to take everything you read online with a pinch of salt. Even on MN people make up weird shit on threads just to ruffle feathers. It’s easy to make bold claims about pretty much anything you like. We need to be diligent and aware.
