AIBU to hate cute words for food?

As in adults talking to each other saying they enjoy “a couple of squares of choccy” or “a couple of biccies” or some “veggies”.
And the word “nibbles” as in “she put some nibbles out on the table”.
Sounds so tossy to me.

I know its used often but I can not abide butty.

Ragwort · 23/02/2019 18:15

I agree and I also hate twee descriptions like a ‘cheeky’ glass of wine or ‘dirty food’ as if you are being ever so naughty to admit you enjoy a glass of wine or a burger & chips Hmm.

StrawberrySquash · 23/02/2019 18:16

Veggies, I really dislike. Fine as a description for vegetarians, but irrationally annoys me if you mean veg.

ArtisanPopcorn · 23/02/2019 18:17

Choccy biccy is a double cringe.

NabooThatsWho · 23/02/2019 18:19

You’d hate my house OP.
My 3 year old adds -y to the end of every food. Custardy. Appley. Noodley.
We’ve all started copying her!

Ragwort · 23/02/2019 18:25

I can’t stand vegetarians describing themselves as ‘veggie’, that seems incredibly childish to me.

BreconBeBuggered · 23/02/2019 18:29

Veggie in either context I don't mind. Nom and nommy are just ugh.

iklboo · 23/02/2019 18:38

I see your 'nom nom' and raise you a 'Nommidge'.

elQuintoConyo · 23/02/2019 18:40

I object to your use of tossy OP. It's rather wanky.

berrybubbles · 23/02/2019 18:42

I call juice ‘juicies’ for my DD and I accidentally said it to a guest when handing them their drinkBlush

Noalarmsandnosurprises · 23/02/2019 18:43

‘Picky tea’ or ‘picky bits’

Arrrrgh!

UrsulaPandress · 23/02/2019 18:43

What the Jeff is wrong with Butty?

Chip Butty anyone. Yum.

recrudescence · 23/02/2019 18:45

A friend has started to use ‘yumtious’ to describe food she has enjoyed. I actually think that is worse than any of the examples given so far.

Crappygilmore · 23/02/2019 18:52

Do u also hate the word moist? Nibbles and picky bits? It's all food tbh and whatever the person next to you describes it as. Its food. I hate nom nom or nom for the feckers who cant be arsed to say the second. I feel its best to ignore all people who use your most offended words. Life is far too short.

MaggieAndHopey · 23/02/2019 19:36

"Moist" is a real word, though. I do hate 'picky bits', makes me think of scabs.

cauliflowersqueeze · 23/02/2019 19:40

Never heard “picky bits” before - that’s kind of annoying.

“Nom” is ridiculous.
Yes “moist” is another word that makes me cringe a bit.

You’re right. There are bigger things to worry about. Let’s spend our time solely focused on the Very Big Issues in life!

EthelFechan · 23/02/2019 19:44

If that’s all you’ve got to worry about you’re not doing so bad

What makes you think that's all OK has to worry about? She's chatting on a forum not bearing her soul.

I hate people calling their evening meal "supper" - it sounds pretentious.

Stoplosingthedarnkeys · 23/02/2019 19:45

Spag Bol (or even "bowl" as discussed in a recent thread) I have made myself angry just typing it Angry

EthelFechan · 23/02/2019 19:45

Baring not bearing!

ChrisPriss · 23/02/2019 19:46

I cannot abide "dirty food" as a term - it's food, not dirty ffs

Chelseajunior · 23/02/2019 19:48

It's cringey OP lol!

Chelseajunior · 23/02/2019 19:49

Fancy some nibbles? How about a choccy biccy?

TacoFlavouredKisses · 23/02/2019 19:54

"Cuppa" and "delish" Angry

BiscuitDrama · 23/02/2019 20:01

What should nibbles be described as though? I’m thinking when there are a few different types (otherwise you’d just say what they actually are).

TheFatberg · 23/02/2019 20:03

'Round of toast' and 'brew' really annoy me.
