What do adults without children do on weekends

I seem to have forgotten.

Other than shopping. Everything feels child orientated. Or I've just forgotten how to be an adult over the last 18 years.

We've just retired and moved to our dream big house in the countryside but by the coast, we are 48 & 49, child free by choice...we spend every day doing whatever we want ...my ponies are at home , my horse at stables round the corner, and I love doing anything related to them, outdoors all year round. We walk our dogs on the beach every day. We get up at 7am , have breakfast together, I go to the stables , DP tinkers with diy on the house and land. Lunch together , take dogs to beach then do our own things again. We like to go on long walks or bike rides exploring. We have a simple outdoorsy life, enjoying our freedom. I travelled for 10 years so not bothered about going abroad now, DP goes on holiday abroad a couple of times a year to see his brother in Spain. People say we are very lucky, but it's all by design !

WhoKnewBeefStew · 24/02/2019 17:32

We have eow free. On our child free weekend we tend to;

Gym together (something we can’t do with dc)
Jobs around the house
Walk the dogs
Food shopping
Drink vodka in the afternoon Grin
Cinema
Nice meal (in and out)
Swear a lot
Ride motorbikes
See friends

Orangecake123 · 24/02/2019 17:41

Gym this morning.
Supermarket.
Studied a bit.
Dinner with two friends.
Now watching a youtube documentary.

JustOneShadeOfGrey · 24/02/2019 17:46

We had a child free weekend (first in a loonnnnngggg time) last week and we window shopped, took a long walk, had a curry without arguments, drank loads of wine and didn’t tiptoe once through the house at night! Oh, and a lie in. The memory of that lie in will warm me through the rest of winter 😂.

HaveNoSocks · 24/02/2019 17:49

When i was younger I'd often be recovering from a night out. Now if I had a childfree weekend (and I'm considering this slightly wistfully). I'd have a lie in, do any housework I had neglected during the week. Maybe go for a relaxed walk to buy a croissant, read my book, drink nice coffee I've spent the time brewing, potter about in the garden in peace. Then maybe go see a gallery, see a play, visit an interesting restaurant (obviously this isn't affordable for everyone), go for a walk in the countryside, visit a random village, visit a stately home, go to a museum.

shoesarefab · 24/02/2019 17:49

Whatever the fuck they like I imagine!!

YoThePussy · 24/02/2019 17:55

Loving the idea of a snow drop Walk mentioned on page 1.

I go for walks, especially now when everything is starting to flower and it all looks fresh and lovely.
Yesterday 6 Nations rugby and for the next few weekends.
Gardening.
Mumsnetting.
Reading, working my way through a large pile of charity shop purchases which then can go back again.
Crafts, needlepoint, knitting, painting.
All interspersed with glasses of wine and food.

Also boring crap like tidying the house and cleaning.

Serin · 24/02/2019 18:01

Our youngest 2 are about to leave for uni, one this year and one in 2020.
We have recently been thinking more about how we will spend out time without them.
We are planning on getting some chickens and sorting out all the jobs in the house that we have ignored for 2 decades!
We might get another campervan as we do like the countryside/seaside and the freedom that a van allows.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/02/2019 18:10

Usually chores, meal out/fave dinner & sex. I have to get up early anyway as the cat needs attending to.

I read too, dh has hobbies.

Bozlem80 · 24/02/2019 18:11

Haven’t a clue, been a parent for over 20 yrs & now I’m a grandparent 😊

fullofcoldahhhh · 24/02/2019 18:16

DH and I go out for a really nice posh breakfast every Sunday... I love it! It's like a date morning every week Grin

ruthboros · 24/02/2019 18:21

I go to our cottage in the country with DH. Go on long walks, watch telly in front of the log fire, eat nice dinners cooked by him. Have a lie-in. Just chill. DH is retired but I still have a very full-on job in London so weekends are relaxation time.

ToftyAC · 24/02/2019 18:22

I have no idea.... I can’t even remember what a child free anytime is like (except when I’m at work).

MaybeitsMaybelline · 24/02/2019 18:25

Today I spring cleaned the kitchen from the ceiling to the floor and every cupboard inside and out. Took all day, and now I’m eating Chinese. Takeaways are half the price without teenagers.

Sleepyquest · 24/02/2019 18:27

Cinema, lunch, walks by the beach, shopping, Netflix, seeing friends

Gth1234 · 24/02/2019 18:30

Enjoy themselves, clearly. (with or without kids). Except without kids the adults can do what they want to do, rather than what the kids want to do.

NorthbyNorthwest22 · 24/02/2019 18:40

Got to the pub (one of the ones without a kids play area!) watch what we want on tv and sleep. 😴 It’s the simple things...

Bignosenobum · 24/02/2019 18:51

Sleep. Make love. Go outto the beach everythung.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 24/02/2019 19:00

To all those parents bogged down in children's activities over the weekend - remember that when they're older and have their own social lives, you can do fun things too! Grin

Mine are 10 & 13, but thanks to a sleepover for DS and DD going shopping with friends and to the cinema in the evening, we've managed two nice walks this weekend and we went to the theatre.

So, don't think it's a completely barren landscape until they're 18!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/02/2019 19:02

We don’t have children, and today has been:

Lie-in until the cat pestered so much DP got up
Bacon sandwiches in bed
Meal planning for the week ahead
Huge bath for me while DP went to the supermarket
Laundry
Nice dinner, wine

We usually go out for a late lunch on a Saturday, then in the evening have cheese/tapas type stuff. I read a lot, DP goes to football or watches it. I meet friends for lunch or coffee. I think the biggest difference is probably in terms of sleeping in - we often lie in bed until midday, taking it in turns to get up and make tea.

happydays00 · 24/02/2019 19:04

Before kids I used to just enjoy:

Brunch
Kid free shopping/coffees / mooching around town
Manicures / waxes / massages / facials
Hop on the train to visit friends
Drive to the coast
Long dog walks
Evenings in the pub
Lie ins!!!!!
Boxset marathons
Festivals
Read

Obviously a lot of these can still be done with children but for us it isn't the same. I love my DC (and am pregnant with another) but I would be lying if I didn't say I sometimes missed the freedom and spontaneity of my pre-kid weekends!!

MummyofTw0 · 24/02/2019 19:11

I used to have sex, go to the pub, go out for meals, shop

Lol

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/02/2019 19:11

On the weekends the kids are with their dad I do absolutely FUCK. ALL.

Its wonderful!

I lie on the sofa under a duvet, will run to the shop in my bought-because-they-look-like-a-track-suit pyjamas for wine and nukable crap, and get back under the duvet again.
