What do adults without children do on weekends

I seem to have forgotten.

Other than shopping. Everything feels child orientated. Or I've just forgotten how to be an adult over the last 18 years.

I used to spend sat mornings in the gym, would do one or two classes, ho for a swim, then jacuzzi, sauna, steam... So about 2.5 hours...!

Would just then do nice things, go for a river walk and pub, meet friends later or go for a nice dinner with dh.

Sunday lie in, Sunday lunch at pub.

If I had a weekend to myself I wouldn't be doing that anymore though as I don't live in London anymore, I don't have a gym membership and don't have available friends to just mooch about with anymore. So I'd probably spend it catching up on life admin, gardening as well as catching up on sleep.

Have a lovely fucking time without moaning, constant illness, having to pander to their bullshit and having five minutes to have a shit on their own.

I think. Angry

Lotsofsausage · 23/02/2019 20:07

I think as I don't have kids I get up very early to exercise during the week and then work long hours (45+) so tbh I am still pretty knackered on a weekend! An average weekend will look like this:
Pub after work on a Friday but not a late one.

Gym on a Saturday morning for a double session, then straight to supermarket and housework/laundry after lunch. sometimes squeeze in a bath and face mask if I am feeling decadent! Meal prep freezer meals for the following week. Sometimes go out out on an evening, maybe once a month, most likely a film and a takeaway, if so bed around 11pm.
Sundays are the best - lie in, coffee with friends, roast dinner, sometimes even a nap! then early night.

Roussette · 23/02/2019 20:07

Phew Nico I was just getting to grips with gym activity or lack of it, I feel a lot better now!

Goodadvice1980 · 23/02/2019 20:12

Sleep, eat, gym, go out, swim, bike ride, laze around reading or watching TV 👍👍

Goodadvice1980 · 23/02/2019 20:13

And Pilates 😆😆

EducatingArti · 23/02/2019 20:14

I work on Saturday mornings. Then I spend time catching up on housework, church on Sunday mornings ( including volunteering to help look after toddlers), seeing a friend maybe and collapsing in a little crumpled heap and resting before the next weekend comes around ( I have a chronic illness that causes fatigue)
Once every month or two I try and spend a Saturday afternoon doing experimental archaeology if I have the energy

BrusselPout · 23/02/2019 20:28

Mostly chores if I'm honest (mega busy work lives and long hours so the weekend is a chance to catch up on stuff we don't do during the week), but occasional weekends away, trips to the local to sit in the beer garden (summer obvs), nothing too exciting

When I said this, I was reminiscing. Don’t think the dc have allowed us to stay in bed past 8am at the latest for 10 years.,

theSnuffster · 23/02/2019 21:17

I think before we had children we used to get up late, watch lots of TV, go shopping, go to the cinema, eat out.

Nowadays if we get a day alone without the children we tend to do really boring stuff like get jobs done around the house or run errands. Or go to ikea! We do try to eat out somewhere we wouldn't usually take the children.

I am desperate for some child free time!

TaleOfTheContinents · 24/02/2019 00:17

Friends are a much bigger part of an adult's life if they don't have kids. DH and I do things with friends most weekends - eating out, drinking, dinner parties, going to plays/festivals/music performances, etc. BIL and SIL who have kids hardly see their friends at all any more.

Nacreous · 24/02/2019 07:21

I usually do some of:

  • go away and stay with friends or have them to stay
  • go for a long walk/bike ride and stop for lunch/tea and cake (sometimes on my own, sometimes with friends)
  • cook something fancier
  • bake something
  • go shopping
  • do stuff in the garden, be it reading a book, weeding, servicing my bike or whatever. I break many Mumsnet rules and usually have the radio on, or an audiobook or Spotify while I do this.
  • meet friends/family for brunch or lunch
  • friends over for dinner
  • go to museums, galleries etc
  • I'm currently training for a long swim, so there's a long swim at the pool and then also Pilates, yoga, some weights etc to get my strength up and try and keep my flexibility.
  • something crafty, like making decorations or altering or making clothes etc.
