AIBU to be f@£ked off with Virgin Atlantic

Just over two months ago, when booking an overnight flight to South Africa, we rang Virgin Atlantic to find out about booking seats with a bulkhead for our 11 month old baby. We asked how it worked and the Customer Service Rep said that we had to put a request in and as we were the first and that flight wasn't that full we were good. Fast forward 2 months and we've been told we don't have one and that we were never guaranteed one. At the time the CSR did such a good job in convincing us that we bought premium return flights on that basis, which again we've been told is not guaranteed. On listening to the call the Supervisor even admitted that there was a training out issue, but would do nothing to help us i.e. move us onto another flight or give us a full refund. We can be flexible as we're visiting family. AIBU to feel like I've been sold a lemon? I mean we rang Virgin before we booked our flights to make sure we could get a bulkhead, was told we were good and that to ring back when we'd booked our flights and that the request would go in. At no point did the rep ever say that we might not get one! Has this ever happened to anyone? Did the airline do anything to help? If not, how was your flight? I would NEVER have booked the flight if I thought that for one moment we couldn't have a cot for her to sleep in. Bizarrely the Supervisor said that if we'd wanted to guarantee a seat for our daughter we should have booked another seat and brought the car seat. Had to point out to her that babies are not meant to be in there car seats for more than two hours.
