AIBU to ask you to explain missing ironing board

Hi,

This may seem trivial to some but it has totally freaked me out to the extent I am spending the night with friends. Please help me see reason!

Yesterday, I had a meeting which required a more formal outfit that was nice and crisp. I have an ironing board which is rarely used but ha ALWAYS been placed in the coat cupboard in my corridor by the front door. However, when I went to retrieve it yesterday it was NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. I am disturbed as I can come up with no logical explanation as to why it was missing. The last time I used it was 3 ish weeks ago.

  • I live on my own in C. London
  • My visitors arrive on foot, tube etc
  • I would notice if they walked off with the ironing board- it is 100% not in the flat.
  • Why steal a rarely used ironing board
-I live in a secure building with the concierge (until 7 pm)

AIBU to ask you to please explain this. I'm really unnerved. Am I crazy? What would your natural reaction to this be?

Could your old flatmate have come back and taken it, thinking it belongs to them?

IHaveAnOutie · 21/02/2019 19:06

Where are you going to stay tonight OP?

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 21/02/2019 19:07

Maybe PP has turned it into a skate board??

MissLadyM · 21/02/2019 19:09

This is fabulous! I'm dying for a conclusion

Purrrplexed · 21/02/2019 19:18

Back in the flat tonight. Feeling quite nauseous/queasy.

Don't have the heeby-jeebies like yesterday

Good for you op. Please update us. If you are feeling uneasy a great trick I did after a bad burglary in a previous property was wedge something against front door. I have a small lobby and used my hoover telescopic pole. Kind of belt and braces. Once I felt less vulnerable didn’t need it. I’m sure you’ll be ok. Very odd !!

Purrrplexed · 21/02/2019 19:26

Thank you HeronLanyon

The nausea is not related to the ironing board/anxiety. Just mentioned it as it's making me want to be in my own room with the bathroom close by.

Bizarrely there is an ironing board propped up on the wall outside my neighbours front door. It’s been there overnight. Do you think it’s escaping and waiting for a lift?

Readysteadygoat · 21/02/2019 19:34

My DP had a hoover go missing from their holiday apartment. I think they decided in the end that the concierge had let himself /the cleaner in and they'd borrowed /stolen it. They changed the locks soon after

TheCanyon · 21/02/2019 19:35

Im staying at my sil's in the middle east, i think her house fairy Anouskas stole yer ironing board. Your pants will turn up ironed in the drawer, after a week ive still not found the ironing board...

HeronLanyon · 21/02/2019 19:41

Fabulously can you do a photo fit ???

Brownbootscoldheart · 21/02/2019 19:51

Placemarking for the return of the board

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 21/02/2019 19:51

I reckon a previous tenant has keys and they have done a trial.

Get a locksmith to change your locks. I'm pretty sure home insurance is invalidated if you don't change locks on a new rental anyway.

Supersoaker10 · 21/02/2019 20:07

Maybe you put it outside by mistake and the concierge moved it to keep the hallway tidy and forgot to give it back? Do the communal areas have CCTV?

Jekyllandhydesmother · 21/02/2019 20:09

Some of these comments actually made me lol.

I'm so intrigued by this!! I need conclusion!

Ironmanrocks · 21/02/2019 20:10

Fab Do you think this is a mutiny of the under used ironing boards? I think I might find mine outside tomorrow....maybe they are all trying to leave....

Fiveletters · 21/02/2019 20:48

Oh no, 12 pages and no conclusion! No new ideas but placemarking to see what happens

forumdonkey · 21/02/2019 20:51

Have you done st Anthony?

IndieTara · 21/02/2019 21:59

What did happen in the end in the chocolate bar thread ?

Hohofortherobbers · 21/02/2019 22:09

It will turn up as soon as you've bought a new one, so keep your receipt. That sofa looks like it could squirrel away an ironing board though, have you checked behind there?

Watchingblueplanet · 21/02/2019 22:17

Did you have the locks changed when you moved into the flat? If not could the previous tenant have a key to get in?

Tissunnyupnorth · 21/02/2019 22:25

Is it your ironing board or part of the flat inventory? Maybe letting agents popped by, took it for another flat & forget to tell you?

Purrrplexed · 21/02/2019 22:56

Can you see from the layout of my flat why I find it difficult to believe I mindlessly walked down a longish corridor and misplaced the board in my bedroom/living area? It would take too much effort for no absolutely reason imo.

JustOneShadeOfGrey · 21/02/2019 22:56

Did you actually ever own one? Or did you dream it?

MollysLips · 21/02/2019 22:59

Have you checked behind and inside the TV box in the cupboard? Please do that.
