To ask you to look at this pic of my new bathroom and tell me why I hate it!

Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

Its lovely, just a bit bare. It'll look great once you've got a blind up and towels in and maybe something on that back wall.

burritofan · 20/02/2019 18:51

a wooden-look venetian blind would look better than a roller

Yes yes yes! Appalled at all the roller blind suggestions, might as well suggest one of these:

Definitely paint the walls, not grey, it looks like plaster in a bathroom.

I would go dark(ish)
Pure jute is a gorgeous color

cricketmum84 · 20/02/2019 18:51

It does look a bit beige which kinda makes me feel a bit meh about it.

I think it needs a colour accent, so a posh towel, bath mat, maybe a few candles etc in one main colour and then you will love it :)

TitsAndTomatoes · 20/02/2019 18:51

It doesnt look bad. Just a bit plain.
Then again Im a tile from top to bottom kinda gal. My DB and SIL have the most amazing mosaic tiles in their bathroom. I could die happily mid shower in their bathroom.

suffragetteorsuffragist · 20/02/2019 18:52

I think it looks gorgeous and I wish it was mine!

AnotherEmma · 20/02/2019 18:52

"The thing is that people are saying "grey" but grey is very now. Grey floor and grey tiles and grey towels and grey everything will look very avocado in a few years."

Yes but the tiles are grey and OP says they can't change the tiles.

If they use grey tones for the floor and/or walls, at least the colours will work together.

No one's saying they need grey towels (I'm not, anyway). I think walls/floor etc should be reasonably neutral and then it's easy to add colour with towels and other accessories.

OhTheDramz · 20/02/2019 18:52

The cream is really dingy. That’s all. Get something cooler on the wall like a grey blue and it will lovely.

Widowodiw · 20/02/2019 18:53

For me it’s the curved sink unit it blocks under bath. As pp said you should have put bath in same wall as shower.

However you need colour on those walls. I’d go for a muted green and a wooden Venetian blind to match the flooring.

viccat · 20/02/2019 18:53

The magnolia walls are the biggest problem and the easiest to change - pick a bold, darker colour (teal, navy, dark grey or similar) or a cool tone like duck egg for the walls.

I don't like the floor either but it wouldn't make sense to change that now...

The rest is easily fixed when you add some accessories and colour.

Mixingitall · 20/02/2019 18:53

It’s lovely, agreed on the deep wall colour suggestions and print behind the loo. I would soften the window with a Roman blind or white wooden Venetian blind with a 5cm slat size. Then I would add candles and an orchid on the windowsill. You’ll love it once the colour has changed. Sometimes it’s the time and effort invested in change that can leave me flat post building work/house changes. In time I grow to love the change, it’s never an instant for me.

Lifeofa · 20/02/2019 18:54

There is a Dulux app you could use, you take photos of your bathroom then select a paint colour for the walls.

I think when you get used to it you’ll love it, if you get brightly coloured towels to contrast and either a big plant for the windowsill or 3 smaller ones and I agree a blind would make a huge difference. `I think it needs texture to make it look less bare.

Please come back and update us

viccat · 20/02/2019 18:55

Also maybe some more modern plants to replace the (fake?) plants in there now.

Kettleon80 · 20/02/2019 18:55

I really like it but I don't like the peach wall colour. I'd go for maybe a grey with some coloured pics.

LightDrizzle · 20/02/2019 18:56

The wall colour is the main culprit, it doesn’t work with all the white. If you want pale, go for a very light blue or green. An aloe vera plant, or similar in a contrasting pot and some stronger tones to anchor the room will help.
It’s too bland and stark at the moment.
Mind you I’ve gone for an orange glass wall in mine so you might want to ignore me!

Notso · 20/02/2019 18:56

Sage green on the walls might work.

longearedbat · 20/02/2019 18:57

You might find that your walls get very watermarked above the bath, and especially above the basin. It's amazing how much water gets splashed about. I 'economised' on tiles in a new bathroom and I wish I hadn't as I am constantly washing down the paintwork.

buttercupsyruplove · 20/02/2019 18:57

The magnolia paint definitely needs to go. The tiles look rather random tbh. If you don't go for colour on the walls, painting them white and adding some plants, a blind, some fluffy towels, candles, would certainly help.

PotteryGirl · 20/02/2019 18:59

COLOUR !!!!!!

ClaireElizabethBeuchampFraser · 20/02/2019 19:00

I would take the mosaic tiles that are behind your sink unit and frame your tiles on the wall with them. Then I would pick one of the colours from the mosaic and paint the walls to match. Then either go darker or lighter for your accessories.

earlybyrd · 20/02/2019 19:00

A nice dark Jade/ peacock green, Farrow and Ball have a good new one, then fabric samples from blind companies - I think it's lovely just needs the magnolia to be covered quickly

puppy23 · 20/02/2019 19:01

Love the sink and especially the mirror - I agree the rest of the room just needs some slight personality to make it feel properly yours

youaremyrain · 20/02/2019 19:02

It looks wrong because the magnolia walls clash with the greyer tiles. The grey tiles can work with the wooden floor but not if you throw another yellowy magnolia in there. Paint the walls white or grey and it will tone better and be much calmer overall

Calzone · 20/02/2019 19:03

People can be so mean.

Karigan195 · 20/02/2019 19:04

Because it currently looks like a hotel room bathroom. It will be lovely just put finishing touches in. Colour greenery etc
