What/how much cleaning do you do daily?

Just curious as my boyfriend says I do way to much anti bac cleaning of surfaces! (I have diagnosed OCD & anxiety).

Daily I:
•Wash up at least twice
•Wipe down all kitchen surfaces & cupboard/fridge door handles with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe front door and other door handles/baby gates with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe remotes & tables down with either anti bac spray or wipes.
•Put at least 2 loads of washing in & out on the driers.
•Anti bac spray the sink before bed and clean it.

Weekly I:
•Bleach and anti bac wipe the toilet
•Clean the bath
•Anti bac spray the sink and rinse with hot water (usually do this sometimes 3x a week)
•Hoover twice (Boyfriend does this usually)

Am I crazy or to neurotic?
We ran out of anti bac wipes yesterday and I've been freaking out about not having them! He's just gone off to the shop to get an emergency supply before I go to Aldi tomorrow for a big stock up.

Daily clean of kitchen after cooking dinner; maybe one wash done and hung out; probably one load of dishwasher in and out.

Everything else done by the cleaner.

It’s bliss.

BitchQueen90 · 19/02/2019 22:28

Daily: washing dishes, wiping down surfaces, sweeping up anything spilled, make beds.

Then everything else I do on a weekly basis (as a single working parent I find this the best way to keep on top of everything)

Monday - kitchen. Fridge, microwave, take out rubbish and recycling, sweep and mop. Once a month I'll deep clean the oven and cupboards.
Tuesday - dust everywhere, clean mirrors and hoover all carpets.
Wednesday - ironing and change beds.
Thursday - bathroom. Toilet, bath, wipe over the sink and taps, clean shower head, change towels, mop the floor.
Friday - wash day. I do 3 or 4 loads a week (colours, whites and towels/bedding).

I do nothing at the weekends apart from the daily jobs.

It's just me and one DS at home, no pets so minimal mess.

certainlymerry · 19/02/2019 22:29

You really really need to stop using wipes. Use a clothe and a spray cleaner and put the cloth in the washing machine. It’s really appalling for the environment and you just aren’t taking that on board.

I mop all floors once a week, clean bathrooms and toilets weekly. I wipe switches and door handles weekly and try to clean kitchen cupboard doors.
Wipe down surfaces several times a day in the kitchen. Load dishwasher about once a day.
Change all beds and towels weekly.
Do washing as needed
Clean windows when I notice they are dirty!
I do try and wipe remotes with antibacterial spray and a cloth when I remember.
Hoover upstairs once a week. Downstairs every few days.

summerblues · 19/02/2019 22:30

Morning

  • make bed
  • scoop litter trays
  • hoover floors quickly for cat litter

After work

  • dishes after dinner
  • wipe down all kitchen surfaces before and after dinner
  • wipe cat food mats before and after they eat
  • litter trays
  • hoover floors, rug and sofas (to keep on top of cat hair)
  • wipe table in lounge/remotes/coasters
  • clean/bleach toilet

As required/weekend

  • hoover bedroom carpets
  • wipe all bedroom surfaces/dust
  • steam clean floors
  • laundry
  • change bedding and towels
  • clean full bathroom
  • dust
  • clean skirting boards
  • windows cleaned
  • full litter tray cleans
  • bins - recycling and cleaning inside and outside of bins
  • deeper kitchen clean - fridge, micro, oven etc

I generally keep everything in its place and theres only the two of us plus two cats. Probably most of the cleaning is due to having cats!

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 22:31

@certainlymerry I am taking it on board. I know the damage it causes but so do a million other things! I help by not eating meat and contributing to animal killings, I help by reusing items such a shopping bags and bottles. I probably do a lot more that I just can't remember.

FYI I have a thread atm on AMA about my OCD if anyone has any random questions about it they'd like to know or questions in general about mental health.

I'm diagnosed with OCD and anxiety as I said, as well as bulimia (binge eating and laxative abuse and having previously suffered from anorexia and depression.

Agree the amount of wipes you are using is insane. I’m really into bicarbonate/soda crystals/vinegar/hot water lately. And Cif cream cleaner I love it. If gets things so shiny. I don’t like bleach it smells horrible. I also really rate viakal as it actually gets things really clean through removing the limescale which often bleach just covers up

don’t have a list of what I need to do I just do it. I though I had a clean house until I moved out recently. I see now I was just cleaning what I could see and there was a LOT of dirt and dust I hadn’t noticed before! I’m not going to waste hours of my life cleaning the same things over and over as you then don’t notice the other areas. On the plus side I packed and unpacked and put away all my entire worldly belongings in 3 days 😂

When I walk in the kitchen I will do an assessment whether anything needs a clean then clean it. Every time I use the microwave I would check if it needs cleaning

Bathrooms I clean over quickly most days, even if it’s a fast spray/rinse round.

I usually hoover when the floor looks like it needs hoovering, I wouldn’t think ‘oh it’s tuesday hoover day’

I am very tidy as I hate not being able to find things. I have a really good memory and know where everything is. If you asked me at any given time where the large scissors or the screws for something is I would know. DC’s use me like a human Alexa

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 22:40

@PookieDo a human Alexa- I love this!

Mum where is the DVD of me in a school play in 2009?
3rd box down on left hand side living room 😂

Alsohuman · 19/02/2019 22:43

OP, I feel quite ashamed of my post now. Living with OCD must be dreadful. I hope you can get the help you need. If you take one thing away from this, please lose the wipes.

flowersinthebedroom · 19/02/2019 22:43

I'm disabled with mobility problems.

Daily:
Empty/load dishwasher
Wipe work tops and sink
Hoover kitchen
Tidy hotspots (areas where stuff tends to accumulate unless I keep on top of it)

Weekly
Dust bedroom, lounge with feather duster
Clean bathroom

H hoovers most of the house once a week, does laundry once or twice a week.

Our house is tidy and I'm not embarrassed if we have visitors.

PookieDo · 19/02/2019 22:45

I do understand OCD, I have anxiety myself and often organising and cleaning makes me feel a bit better. More in control. I wonder if you can try to find new things to focus on, not in an OCD way but that you may also enjoy. I loved finding Marie kondo, her way of organising things really did give me some joy! Then also it’s not just a focus on the same repetitions, it’s broadening your horizons in new ways, can help you break stressful habits to keep finding new ones Wink

Tinysarah1985 · 19/02/2019 22:47

Daily i hoover (have a dog and hardwood floor, means there are tumbleweeds of german shepherd hairs everywhere otherwise), wash up,wash dogs bowls, wipe kitchen sides, chuck some bleech down the loos, every 3 days put a load of washing on. Only me and my 4 year old at home.
Weekly -dust, change bedding and towels, wash dogs bedding, brush dog, clean bathroom, clean inside windows (above mentiond dog likes to smish his nose all over the window as he watches people walk past)

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 22:47

@PookieDo 😂😂

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 22:48

@Alsohuman it's okay :) yeah I will try to, I've had some good suggestions on clothes I could get and spray anti bac spray on to use then wash.

OP posts:
OdeToDiazepam · 19/02/2019 22:49

Wash up.. wipe the sides, a quick vacuum if needed.

viques · 19/02/2019 22:50

The thing is the germs inside your house are your own family germs. The only germs I worry about, and not that much to be honest, are the ones I pick up from other people, which is why the first thing I do when I come in,especially if I have been on public transport, is to wash my hands.

PookieDo · 19/02/2019 22:52

Ooh a lovely hot wash with all your dirty cloths and some soda crystals to clean your washing machine at the same time - so much more satisfying than wipes 😂

viques · 19/02/2019 22:53

Ps, I do clean my house, a la organised mum, but was a bit horrified by the front door wiping. Have also realised that there are pages and pages of posts on this thread which I missed. Oops.

PookieDo · 19/02/2019 22:55

What I have noticed about the wipes when I used to use them is that they are often too wet, leave residue, smears on things or then go dry really fast. Also in my house I also noticed they were not very good at picking up dirt or hair just smearing it around

If you invest in some really good cloths, along with some cheap ones (have a mix) they will last you well even with washing/soaking overnight

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/02/2019 22:57

Just DP and me here, plus a very fluffy cat. DP works full-time, I do four full days.

Daily - wipe down kitchen surfaces, load dishwasher, hand wash pots, chopping board, cat dishes etc.
Every second day - sweep kitchen floor, run and empty dishwasher
Wednesday (my day off) - wash towels, clean bathroom, miscellaneous load of washing
Saturday/Sunday - mop floors, hoover (DP’s jobs), strip our bed and wash, hot wash with DP’s shirts, wool wash, ironing, dust/polish, clean bathroom
Occasionally - skirting boards, light switches etc, washing windows. This should be done more frequently, but CBA.

DP does the dishwasher, floors, windows, and bins. Whoever doesn’t cook at night does the wiping down of the kitchen and whatever washing up needs done.

user2085372673 · 19/02/2019 23:03

Wow, just read then whole thread. So many people bringing up all these wipes and you are just making it ok in your head by refusing carrier bags. You need to stop using them.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 19/02/2019 23:10

Daily just clean food mess - spray and wipe kitchen surfaces. And that's about it tbh. We have a cleaner every 2 weeks. If something is looking particularly dirty in between we clean / hoover. We are gross not just by mums net but by most people's standards I suspect (one load of washing each per week per person plus maybe one other for towels or bedding or something).

In my defence, we both work, I cook everything from scratch and in the couple of hours free I have after kids are in bed before I go, I do not want to spend any of it cleaning! We're healthy, no allergies or anything and no gastro issues so don't think our grossness is having any negative effects

Osirus · 19/02/2019 23:13

I vacuum every day, clean and anti-bac kitchen surfaces. And wash up about 50 times (no dishwasher!).

I try to clean the bathrooms every week but I bleach the toilets regularly and wipe down the sinks, usually with tissue and a bit of bleach. I don’t use wipes; what an enormous waste of money.

crimsonlake · 20/02/2019 00:13

Another one here who is surprised if you have OCD that you only clean your toilet weekly.
