Neighbours builders

Neighbours embarking on 4 month extension. So far the builders have done the following:

  • spent two weekends, Sat & Sun (starting at 9am, erecting scaffolding).
  • now have radio on playing loudly (so I can hear inside double glazed house)

Owners of house have moved out for the duration of project so I will need to email them if I want to raise it with them.

Which of these, if any, would you email about? In a diplomatic way?

I have let the builders can park in our private parking area (which we own) as our road is narrow. So its not as if I haven't been accomodating.

We had new neighbours a few years ago. The first year they had loads of work done, so we had noise. mess, vans blocking our drive, lorries blocking the entrance to the narrow cul-de-sac, cement mixers turning at 7.30am on a Sunday morning etc etc.

We didn't complain because we kept hoping it would soon be over and we are very British!

The work was eventually completed and a month later it was my daughters ninth birthday and she had a few friends in the garden running around squealing at 2.30pm in the afternoon. Neighbours came around and complained, threatened us with the police!, and went apeshit at my husband when he told them they were being ridiculous.

So yes I would complain to neighbours, because in my opinion there's no point in being reasonable with unreasonable people.

Another voice saying to just speak to the builders. You have to live next to the neighbours after this is done, so I would avoid falling out with them but would not be bothered about speaking to the builders.

orange - great idea. Will save it up if speaking to them doesn't work. The only thing is that if its anything like this thread everyone will phone in and say I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.

silver - I don't want to make friends with the buiders. They listen to Radio Local so probably aren't my type ...

I would just ask them in the first place. If they doesn't work may be contact the neighbours.

What are you on about Confused YOUR neighbours were unreasonable, but there's not a shred of evidence that the OP's are.

OP, you ARE making a mountain out of a molehill. Please say you've spoken to the builders by now and all is resolved.

It's ironic really that the neighbours remarked when they moved about how lovely and peaceful it is around here and that is why they don't want to move away.

That's not irony. Irony would be if the neighbours had erected speakers which constantly permit music.

Building works is part of life. It's most likely your house caused a few issues for others at some point when having work done.

Yes but building an extension can't be done on silence!

Just ask them to turn it down Hmm.

Not sure why you are already trying to get off on the wrong foot with neighbours who haven't even moved in yet. Don't forget they could be there for many years, and it's much better to have them onside than start a snipey email war.

This reminds me of my previous neighours who instead of just knocking and having a conversation would post little notes through my door. Use to irritate the hell out of me!
