I need help, I’m in a mess and I can’t extricate myself

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 09:10

I’m in a complete and utter financial mess and have been for a long time. This is despite earning an excellent salary.

I know the usual advice is to contact stepchange etc but they can’t seem to help, I need someone who can.

I have acquired things like parking tickets which I’ve ignored and had a head in the sand approach to, easy as I’ve worked abroad for a while. So haven’t received letters etc.

Every month I am having hundreds taken off me by bailiffs. This isn’t step changes remit, that’s more cc/loan debt. Although I have those too.

My credit file is shocking or else I’d take a loan and sort it that way. Basically I owe a lot of people a lot of money.

I can’t seem to get advice anywhere. I was speaking to one company this morning but he couldn’t help as I earned too much. (So this isn’t a begging thread, I admit this is my fault but if I’m ever going to sort it I need help.)

Anyone legal about at all?

Do you actually have possession of the paperwork OP? Do you receive the letters? Do you keep them or throw them away?

Fairenuff · 19/02/2019 10:49

Oh good, glad you got it sorted.

DishingOutDone · 19/02/2019 10:49

hiding how come anyone else in this situation could get help from debt charities, CAB etc, and you can't? I've worked for the CAB, maybe you just got the wrong person on the wrong day, but there's no way "just lock your door" is the only option (nor appropriate advice).

NorthEndGal · 19/02/2019 10:50

The first thing to do is figure out what you owe where. Even before you worry about how you could pay it, you still need to know how much, to whom, and what they are charging you to carry the debt.
No one can help you until you do that, and you have to be grown up enough to call a round and ask if you don't have paper copies any more.
Phone, email, write, do what you have to , to get that information.
Only then can you start to plan how to tackle it.
It will have to be one bill a month likely, bit you can do it.

Debruary · 19/02/2019 10:52

Your I&E is worthless because you KNOW it won’t leave you with £700... because you don’t know what your debts are. If you don’t know, how on earth can Stepchange or CAB or anyone on here be expected to be able to help, beyond showing you how you can find out the detail?

No one has a magic wand unfortunately, but good luck I hope you can get sorted.

fitflopqueen · 19/02/2019 10:52

Call the Money Advice Service tel: 0800 1387777 or webchat with them , government funded agency.

LIZS · 19/02/2019 10:52

Tbh it sounds like you only want help to magic the immediate provlem away, not deal with the full situation. Lots of advice about how to identify any further ccjs and debts coming your way which you are choosing to ignore. If you told stepchange et al that you have these pending so need to allow £x each month they can include it in the calculations. Now bailiffs have found you they and others will return, whether you redirect your post or not.

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:53

I’ve been through this Dishing. Fines and bailiffs are different to ccs etc

OP posts:
hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:53

Well I’ve sorted it now liz have a good day

Anything here help OP?

Calculator to show how much you can afford to repay.
www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php

“Snowballing your debts” is the name given to paying the minimum off all debts except one, and overpaying that one by as much as possible each month.
Why is this called “snowballing”? A snowball gets larger and faster as it rolls downhill. Clearing debt may seem to go slowly at the start, but like a snowball it will get faster…

OP you're doing what I do, looking for the quick, easy fix which doesn't involve having to wade through it all and face up to the mess. It doesn't exist, and all the time you're spending looking for it is time you could be using to sort it out.

Gather what paperwork you have and start making calls to clarify what you owe and to who, it can't be avoided so you might as well bite the bullet and make a start, I promise you will feel better when you do. The CT seems a good place to start, see if you can get that one sorted today so you can start tomorrow on a more positive note. This can be sorted but it's down to you to do it, you have support here if you have questions along the way.

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:59

Thanks

What a bizarre thread. OP now says the problem is sorted. So, presumably not a big issue if it's so easily resolved?!

Eliza9917 · 19/02/2019 11:03

@SaveKevin Tue 19-Feb-19 10:24:14
Are these debts appearing from the historic debt department recently set up?

What is that?

GabsAlot · 19/02/2019 11:04

how is it resolved in the two hours since you posted and said noone can help

MRex · 19/02/2019 11:05

You don't know what you owe and people have given you advice on how to find out @hidinginabubble. People have then given you advice on how to manage debt, how to challenge debt and organisations to help you. Then you say "It hasn’t been great advice". Actually, the advice is fine. You have been a totally useless OP; you have failed to provide any useful information about what your actual debt is and you're unwilling to follow basic advice. You don't deserve help if you're going to behave like this.

Private parking firms are notoriously aggressive when it comes to collections. They will often you intimidating letter/phonecalls to try and get money from you. This is often a tactic employed because they actually have a genuine lack of authority to collect.

Untrue, the laws been changed.

GabsAlot · 19/02/2019 11:09

i had one parking fine which i disupted they (ncP) rejected y appeal but i still didnt pay

they didnt come after me-but then again it was only once and it wasnt bcause i hadnt paid they said id parked wrongly

Jitterbugz · 19/02/2019 11:09

Go post on forums.pepipoo.com/ where some motoring specialist lawyers, and police, are active.

Yesmate · 19/02/2019 11:13

So all of a sudden you’ve sorted it?! This sounds suspiciously like someone trying to get money out of kind hearted people to me.

Celticrose · 19/02/2019 11:14

I know you say that is sorted but just in case it does not work out please consider CAP. I have some experience of them and

  1. You do not have to be a Christian or have to become one
  2. It is totally free and confidential
  3. They are totally non judgemental
You can check them out on the Money Saving Expert. Martin Lewis has endorsed them on a number of occasions including on TV
Hairyporker · 19/02/2019 11:14

And it's magically sorted - how wonderful.

I hope some poor mug hasn't been daft enough to send any money.

PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2019 11:16

How is it now sorted? Confused
