I need help, I’m in a mess and I can’t extricate myself

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 09:10

I’m in a complete and utter financial mess and have been for a long time. This is despite earning an excellent salary.

I know the usual advice is to contact stepchange etc but they can’t seem to help, I need someone who can.

I have acquired things like parking tickets which I’ve ignored and had a head in the sand approach to, easy as I’ve worked abroad for a while. So haven’t received letters etc.

Every month I am having hundreds taken off me by bailiffs. This isn’t step changes remit, that’s more cc/loan debt. Although I have those too.

My credit file is shocking or else I’d take a loan and sort it that way. Basically I owe a lot of people a lot of money.

I can’t seem to get advice anywhere. I was speaking to one company this morning but he couldn’t help as I earned too much. (So this isn’t a begging thread, I admit this is my fault but if I’m ever going to sort it I need help.)

Anyone legal about at all?

Sell the car for a start, if you decide that you cant do that at least park it sensibly so that you dont incur any more fines.

Lovemusic33 · 19/02/2019 10:05

I don’t understand, you say you are in a good salary yet your worried about bills for a few £100? Paying £2000 in a year should be nothing to someone in a good salary? What do you call a good salary?

Where is your salary going? Do you have a hug mortgage? High rent?

I have had a few surprise bills to pay this year, one being £700 for a over payment I received, yes it was a shock but it’s not huge.

I don’t understand why you can’t sort a payment plan for any of these bills when you have a good income?

Fairenuff · 19/02/2019 10:06

Let's help you make a list then OP.

I'll start

  1. Jacobs £400

Now can you add anything to that or is that all it is?

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:07

Ok I’m not ignoring posts but I am asking for actual advice.
If someone gives me advice that isn’t appropriate I just won’t respond now as this is too serious.

I tried to sell the car a few months ago and couldn’t, we buy any car only value it at £130.

Posting style is familiar.. Hmm
You're ignoring most of the advice here and just repeating yourself.

ScrumpyCrack · 19/02/2019 10:08

Wow people on here are just vile sometimes.

SileneOliveira · 19/02/2019 10:08

THE ACTUAL ADVICE IS TO SEE THE CITIZENS ADVICE, STEPCHANGE OR CHRISTIANS AGAINST POVERTY.

Not expect some randomers to help you online.

FFS. So frustrating. (Not sorry for shouting at you OP, you need to get a fucking huge grip and take some proper steps here.)

PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2019 10:09

For people to give you advice, you’re going to need to share details of your financial situation (what you owe, what comes in, what goes out etc..)

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:10

I have done all the above accept CAP and that is because they are an organisation identical to stepchange really.

They can’t help with bailiffs. Cab just told me to lock the door.

I mean it might be no one can help but I know some legal people are on mumsnet and might be able to help ... worth asking, it’s not hurting you isnit?

OP posts:
peachgreen · 19/02/2019 10:11

But what legal advice do you want?! You're not asking any questions, you're not providing any details - what are people supposed to advise you on?

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:11

I am not sure purple

I did a credit search with the man this morning and I owe £5000 BUT hay doesn’t include things like parking fines for bailiffs and so on.

So I know I owe this one bailiff £400.

But there might be others, I don’t know. I will try to find out.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2019 10:12

How much do you earn every month?

How much do you need to pay out every month?

ToeToToe · 19/02/2019 10:14

You've had some excellent advice on this thread, OP.

You need to get all your paperwork together and work out how much you owe, and to whom.

Take all the letters down to CAB and get advice and help from them - one poster has already told a story of how CAB went through everything with one chap, and sorted it out. They can help you too, and for free.

Fairenuff · 19/02/2019 10:14

From your latest post where you don't know what you how much you owe I don't think anyone here will be able to help you.

If the Bailiffs are after £400 pay that one off first would be my advice.

Just out of interest, how did you get so many parking fines? Did you leave your car parked illegally whilst you were abroad? Or are you one of those arrogant people who think they can park where they like?

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:14

I take home £200, my outgoings are £1300 so I should be OK. However I’m not because of bailiffs and huge charges. In turn this means I am late paying other things so I get money added to that.

It’s just a mess. It might be there is no way out, but I thought it was worth asking on here.

OP posts:
Debruary · 19/02/2019 10:14

Ok when you’ve paid out your essential bills and food costs every month, how much is left over?

What do your current debt repayments amount to?

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:15

I’ve already been to cab and they couldn’t help. No the fines were in the uk

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2019 10:15

Is that a typo? Your salary is £2000?

sulflower · 19/02/2019 10:15

But there might be others, I don’t know. I will try to find out.

How on earth can anyone help you if you seemingly have no clue what you owe and to whom?

ToeToToe · 19/02/2019 10:15

If you can't even face working out how much you owe, then just gather all the letters into a bag, and take it to CAB. They will help.

Worldweary · 19/02/2019 10:16

You said the parking fines were worrying you. Are they from a local authority/County Council?

If so, gather all the tickets and notices together. Contact that local authority and ask to speak to a decision maker who can go through all the parking tickets with you. (Make an appointment to see them) You can go through the story with them of how your can ended up being there, illegally and go through with them how you can pay.

I also used to work with CAB. There is no substitute for getting all the documentation and going through it piece by piece, as every debt has a different solution. Initially, you'll meet someone who will act as a triage so find out what your problem is. They can then refer you to some specialist help.

I'm sure if you were really in thrall to bailiffs they would have already knocked on your door by now. They usually just turn up and give you a couple of hours to get out. They even turn off the hot water immediately and the electricity.

As someone has said, get off Mumsnet and go down the high street to any solicitor. They will probably give you a free half-hour consultation, but CAB will help also.

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:16

£700. But for example back in August I had to pay £900 in fines. This left me short and I took a payday loan. Then I was short the next month because of paying that back.

I do know it’s veey stupid and I’m trying to be honest so people can help. It mihgt be they can’t thiuhh.

OP posts:
hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:17

I don’t have the tickets any more, hey are from months and years ago. For example this latest one is from October 2017.

OP posts:
Debruary · 19/02/2019 10:17

So in theory, without these extra debt repayments, you could put £700 month into savings?

hidinginabubble · 19/02/2019 10:17

In theory yes
