To sing this to DC

Is 'oh my darling clementine' too dark a song to sing to DD. It's pretty obviously about a girl who drowns and then a man who kills himself. I was talking to some other parents who said it was inappropriate. Am i thinking to deeply about this? I mean its literally just a song with a sweet tune. Would you sing this to sooth your child?

Learnt this in guitar club, aged ten.
As you say, a baby/ toddler wouldn’t pick up on the words.

My dad used to rock me to sleep to football chants apparently. I'm sure you're fine!

I remember learning it in infant school. Didn’t quite grasp the darkness of it, although I do remember understanding the storyline to a certain degree. It’s a nice tune!

I didn't know he killed himself. In the version I know, it ends "but I kissed her little sister, and forgot my Clementine"
