Thinking ahead to going away over Xmas and New year. Wondered if anyone had gone anywhere warm and beautiful over this period? And not long haul...

Cyprus. Lovely and temperate in December and only 4.5 hours away.

Thank you all

MrsPear does have a point. A lot of people have said southern spain or canaries - know plenty of people who’ve had appalling weather at that time of year. If you don’t fly long haul, you are crossing your fingers and hoping for the best no matter what anyone says 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have friends who go to Madeira over Xmas most years, and say the weather is lovely. It certainly meets your 'beautiful' criteria - it's a lovely island.

Algarve, Costa del Sol, Morocco, Madeira - all requiring sun cream in Jan/Feb, temps up to low 20s, some days cooler/cloudier/breezier, use these for museums, shopping, eating. Too hot for me in summer...

The Gambia and Morrocco: I'd very highly recommend both. Both under 4 hours flight time, beach weather is Dec/Jan

Tenerife
Lanzarote
Madeira
Should all be warm in January however can be cloudy which may mean no sunbathing
Outdoor pools unless heated can be chilly
Temp drops in an evening but I’ve always been ok with a shawl or lightweight cardigan

I've been to the Canaries a lot in December and January and though you can have lovely weather, the mornings and evenings are undoubtedly chilly. Low 20s are common in day time but we've also had plenty of cloud and torrential rain on one occasion. For guaranteed good weather I think you need to go a bit further afield at that time of year.
