AIBU to go to doctors about my boob?

Posting for traffic. Sorry.
Over the last week I've developed a pain in my boob/ underarm area. No lumps! I've read that it is unlikely to be anything malicious so don't want to waste GPs time (I'm there a lot with dd already) but it's just weird.

Just to add I never get boob pain before period or when pregnant.

Any thoughts?

Do it. Call first thing tomorrow. You'd waste a lot more NHS resources if you leave it and it does need following up.

Any changes to the look and/ or feel of your breasts that are not normal for you should be checked out by the GP, without any unnecessary delay. It will probably be nothing but you definitely won’t be wasting their time.

That should be "waste" in quotes, as in not a waste at all. Typing too fast!

My lump started as 'just' a pain, which then grew into a 2 inch wide lump over 48 hours (I'm not kidding) turned out to be a tumor I had removed in december. The pain was the tumor growing and putting pressure on my ribs and tissue. I don't want scare you but get that checked, pronto

Yes, go, not a waste of time.

Go to the GP. I had pain and itching but no lump I could feel. GP found a lump, referred me to the hospital for tests and a scan. Thankfully nothing wrong (hormonal) but at no point did I feel like I'd wasted anyone's time, the doctor doing the scan said it was the right thing to do to get it checked. You really should go, it'll only play on your mind otherwise.

Glad you’re going to book at appointment! It’s never a waste of resources with things like this. My dad has had male breast cancer twice. This time, it’s spread further because he ignored the early symptoms.

I recently saw my GP for a weird patch of skin on my boob, which turned out to be nothing but it’s always better to get any change looked at! Hope your boob is fine, but if not, early detection is key!

I could have written this! I got checked by my GP earlier this week for the same symptoms (embarrassingly I’ve let it go on for months until the pain has become increasingly worse and I’ve not been able to wear a bra since Christmas ) gp has referred me on to breast clinic for a scan so I suspect that may well be the same for you. They didn’t believe it to be anything too sinister though - fat necrosis was mentioned, something to do scarring in the ducts or a previous trauma perhaps. Only a scan will tell so trying not to worry to much unless I have to. I’m glad your making an appointment though, fingers crossed it’ll all be fine

Definitely get it checked. I had exactly the same as you. Pain in armpit and edge of my breast for a month. Couldn't feel anything but went to the Drs when it didn't go away. She found a small lump.
Went to breast clinic and had mammogram and scan and its ok thank god but scared the hell out of me.

Been doing any strenuous lifting?

If yes to first and no to second, definitely GP in the morning.

YADNBU - any changes to boobs, including unexplained pain, should be checked out.

I also don’t want to scare you but I would urge you to get it checked out. I developed a stabbing pain in my breast. I ignored it. It then became swollen. I ignored it. Too busy with work. It then became red and inflamed. By the time I went to the GP, who referred me immediately to the breast clinic I already had stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer.

I am not saying that this is what you have. I also don’t want to come across as a drama queen. It’s never a waste of time to get something checked out.

No, go...I had this recently and let it drag on for months. In the end I went to the GP, was sent to the breast clinic and discovered I just have some breast tissue extending into one armpit which was causing some pain and swelling.
The relief is immense. I was spending some time each day worried about it on a low grade level.

Yes do go, I went and it turned out to be my glands which was a big relief but for all the reasons given above it’s better to get it checked

Yes do go. I had a similar thing in my early twenties and went to the dr who referred me into the breast clinic. I felt like I was wasting time but in the end i felt better for having it checked. It was all clear and I just have lumpy boobs that are prone to pain apparently.

Definitely go to the GP, as previous posters have said, any breast changes should be checked out. BUT please try not to worry too much - breast pain is pretty unlikely to be anything sinister, according to the doctors I met when I had a similar issue. A few years ago, I had months of pain in one breast before I went to the GP, was referred to the breast clinic at the hospital and had an ultrasound etc - no sign of any problems, and I stopped getting the pain soon after. My mum had a similar experience - had her scheduled breast scan in her forties, then she got a letter saying they'd found something unusual so were referring her for an ultrasound in 2 weeks. She spent those two weeks with shooting pains in her left breast, convinced it was cancer. When she got to her ultrasound, it was the other breast they wanted to scan AND it turned out that the irregularity was just that her boob had kind of bunched up under the original scanner and it hadn't got a clear picture. Miraculously the pain in her left breast disappeared within the week.

I've had breast pain on and off for months, like a mild ache and the odd shooting pain
I eventually went to the doctors after finding a small lump around the nipple and the surrounding area swollen and feeling sore to the touch. The doctor confirmed I had a lump.
I was referred for a breast scan in the breast clinic. When I got there I was examined and told they couldn't find anything so didn't need a scan after all. They said the lump was hormonal and was probably a gland that swells up at different times of the month.
So do get checked but please try not to panic as I did. It is much more likely to be anything other than cancer but it's worth the peace of mind.

@scaredoflabour well, I'm two months out of surgery on the 20th, I still get pains because they had to take some of the nerves and ducts out as well to make sure it wasn't going to come back, once I'm six months out they can look at doing reconstruction (they essential removed the bottom half of my breast) but other than that I'm better than I've ever been, I just have to be careful when I'm lifting to not burst the scar

I also have breast pain. In my left boob around and behind my nipple. I Am slightly panicking as i haven't had my period yet (am monitoring my cycles through an app as i have PCOS and its taken a while for them to settled since i came of my contraception). Hubby had a vasectomy 2 years ago so rational part of me 'knows' I'm not but irrational part of me thinks that vasectomies do fail/parts re-attach. First sign of pregnancy with my DS was sore boobs.

Should i do preg test first and then book GP appt if negative or just book GP appt?
