As well as expensive!

Someone I know thinks I should go for counselling. I think I can’t afford it anyway and even if I could it’s not going to change anything.

What do mnettwrs think?

I've had 2 poor counsellors and 3 excellent counselors/psychologists. CBT is what works for us.

I've gone with specific issues or situations i need help with not a general reworking of my entire life.

I don't like going to counselors who expect you to talk for an hour and then say "so how did that make you feel".

I like ones that question and probe and give me/us homework. At the very least it's very interesting. I would say go a couple of times and see how you find it.

What the hell does ' if it works,it should just work' mean?
Even drugs for physical illness only work if you take the prescribed dose at the right time. If you turn up and say, I'm not going to take the drug, just put it in the drawer but still expect it to work, that would be unreasonable.

If you broke a leg and needed to do regular physio to get better but didn't do the exercises because you couldn't see why you needed to would you be surprised if it didn't work?

lf you don't want to or are not willing to do the work required in therapy / counselling then of course it won't work. Also like physio for an injury' even if you put in the work, the results for one person may be better than for another because of the specific circumstances in types of and cause of.injury.

It also depends on the skill of the practitioner ( physio or counsellor/ therapist), the willingness of patient to engage as.well as the general circumstances of.the injury ( which can vary and are less subject to control)

If you don't want to do counselling then don't. It is quite simple. I find talking about stuff and being helped to see things from different perspectives often help me to see a way forward instead of.gettng bogged down with my internal voice . If it doesn't help you, don't do it
