To ask you to help identify a netflix series I watched but can't remember the name of

Last year I watched a series on Netflix that was basically about a kidnapped girl (reporter's child, I think) and a political cover up.

A political family had 2 sons, one of which was kinda fostered by them. The other one, their golden boy commits a crime in his youth (along with a few friends) when they rape and kill a girl. The family cover it up, and when this journalist starts investigating things they kidnap her child.
It ends with the 'fostered' son crashing the plane he's in (with the mum and the other son) into a mountain, after they try to escape justice as he knows his 'brother' must be stopped.

I may be confusing 2 series, but it's driving me crazy trying to remember what the series was called. I watched it in the 2nd half of last year.

Please help me figure out what this series was called.

i don’t know but i’d like to watch this so hoping for an answer!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/02/2019 22:17

Was the girl called Nola?

Howdoidothis4eva · 16/02/2019 22:29

Not sure, I have memory problems so I'm struggling to put it altogether and may be confusing 2 series that I watched at similar times.

The husband was the politician but it was the mum, his wife, covering up for the 'golden boy' son, and the other 'fostered' son kidnapped the young child for them.

The mum used her position to blackmail others in positions of power to her gain as well, and used them to cover up the golden boy's original crime that he committed when younger.

Ive seen it! But i dont remember either!

Howdoidothis4eva · 16/02/2019 22:32

The mum was played by someone that looks like Dianne Wiest, but it can't be her as I can't find a show that matches what I remember.

It'd called Somewhere Between, I really enjoyed it!

Howdoidothis4eva · 16/02/2019 22:36

Lol, Muddysnowdrop, I've recommended it to a few ppl but can't remember what it was called and I'd quite like to watch it again as I thought it was really good.

I've spent ages online putting in varying synopses to see if anything matches, but haven't been successful yet.

Somewhere Between, it was a one off 8 part series I think.

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 16/02/2019 22:41

Thx gonna watch this now sounds gr8

JagerPlease · 16/02/2019 22:41

Yes! Somewhere between. It was so good!

Muddysnowdrop · 16/02/2019 22:41

I can see its already been solved, have just been reading through my netflix history which involves an embarassing amount of programmes!

Howdoidothis4eva · 16/02/2019 22:42

OMG! Thank you, JarredHeart, Flowers I did read the synopsis of that previously but it didn't sound familiar so I dismissed it, but I've just had a look at some of the later episodes and it's definitely the one I was thinking of.

I knew MNers would figure it out!!

I know you've got the answer now, but you can look at your viewing history on Netflix and see what you've watched in the past if you need to in the future:

The viewing activity for your account is available on the Netflix website. You can download the viewing activity for any profile as a CSV file to easily see which titles were watched and when.
To download your viewing activity:

Sign in to Netflix.com and choose the profile you'd like to download the viewing history for.

Visit netflix.com/viewingactivity.

Scroll to the bottom of the My activity page and select Download all.
A dialog will appear noting that the CSV file should automatically download to your computer. If the file does not automatically download, you can select the Download viewing activity button to manually download the file. The file can opened using any spreadsheet software that supports the CSV file format. If you'd like to see the viewing history for a different profile on your account, simply repeat the steps above.

Yep, Somewhere Between.

Was a half-decent story, and I like the idea that the Mum was cheating death/given a second chance but they didn't do enough with that good idea and it wound up being very predictable.

I also couldn't warm to the fucking annoying spoilt brat kidnapped kid character AT ALL, therefore didn't care if she was saved or not.

Meralia · 16/02/2019 22:47

I loved Somewhere between!

Apparently it got really panned by critics but I thought it was brilliant!

BestestBrownies · 16/02/2019 22:49

@Meralia did it? Lol! Maybe I should consider a new career.....

BestestBrownies · 16/02/2019 22:51

If you want a REALLY good Netflix series to watch I highly recommend 'Sex Education' with the amazing Gillian Anderson. Best series I've seen in ages

Howdoidothis4eva · 16/02/2019 22:52

Thanks, BetsyBigNose, I didn't know that so that's useful info.

Surprised it was panned, Meralia, I thought it was great and stayed up all night to watch it in one go. I found the reporter's husband really annoying though. I could've quite easily punched him!

Another great series on Netflix is “Homeland”. I’ve been hooked on it for weeks now and can’t wait for the final series out here in April.

Meralia · 16/02/2019 23:17

Yeah, they said the acting was wooden. I’d have loved a season 2.

WinterfellWench · 16/02/2019 23:20

Never heard of this, but am gonna source it now!

Florenceflamingo · 16/02/2019 23:20

The finale was really annoying!

Howdoidothis4eva · 16/02/2019 23:42

I'm re-watching it now. I'd forgotten how cute Nick was, lol.
