To be upset with DH being a bit loose with money?

So my DH is a very generous person when it comes to money and I appreciate that we don’t have any money arguments as a result. I’m frugal, I have a Finance background and I love quality but I pretty much always look for a good deal, good value for money. However, I find that sometimes people take advantage of DH’s looseness when it comes to money and we end up paying way too much..I.e. we had some damp fixed in our home and we had this guy who knew DH for quite a while. He gave us a quote of £800 for 5 days work, and after 5 days of moaning and constant pointing at how much worse the damp was we ended up paying £1700. I appreciate some things indeed required some extra material, but I cannot believe the increase is justified. DH agrees.

And list goes on: overpaying watreses tips, electricians, the list is long.

We do have a good financial situation, mortgage free and some savings, but we don’t live in a big house or in a particularly great area. We have a toddler and another baby on the way. AIBU?

You take over paying tradesmen?

Have you spoken to him about this as a general theme?

Prettyhard · 16/02/2019 19:37

@HollyBollyBooBoo I have and he agrees with me, at least that’s what he tells me, in fact his credit card bill has gone down since we met and had a baby, but I’m still shocked sometimes with how much he spends on certain things. He’s just not assertive when it comes to money.

I’m also annoyed that he sends flowers from a flower delivery company and pays £50-£60 sometimes, I’d be very very happy with a nice one from M&S or something
