I don't use it much but I have FB friends who have come via a networking group ( we're all self employed and help each other out with contacts.) We 'met' online in the professional group and they added me as a friend.

I've just got pissed off though at how some 'friends' flaunt their political opinions, like to post something contentious to seek attention it seems, or post photos of themselves clearly seeking validation for their new haircut or whatever, or their new boyfriend etc.

Suppose what I'm saying is they just seem tactless because they don't have a clue about the political views of their FB friends or how they may be being provocative.....and I don't want to get into an argument with them on SM.

I just don't see FB as a place to discuss politics, or seek approval for your new haircut- I mean it looks so needy.

Discussion, vanity, validation.... Erm that's Facebook in a nutshell.

Ok MiserableMooMoo, what IS it for?

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 16/02/2019 09:36

I deleted my Facebook account about 2 years ago and I don't miss it. Yes, it can be really useful and I also had some positive interactions with people on Facebook. But on the whole I found it too much of a platform for political or social posturing to look 'woke' and attention seeking. It just doesn't bring out the best in a lot of people.

Never understand why people moan about people discussing politics!

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 16/02/2019 09:58

Nervousmums Discussing politics is the ideal, of course. But my experience of Facebook was that it was mostly about making political beliefs known without further engaging in nuanced views.

Those problems aren't Facebook, they're the way that people use it.

Choose your FB friends with care, and you won't have those problems.

Facebook isn't obligatory.
