To think I’ve been utterly stupid :(

Logged on to our tax credits gateway, to report a change of working hours.

First time using the new online log in and it says that a change of circumstance such as getting married should be reported 😱

We got married in June 2018 and have not ever told tax credits as maybe stupidly we didn’t even realise they’d want to know (we’ve lived together for 12 years before that)

I feel sick to my stomach that we might receive a huge fine.

Has this happened to anyone else?

It shouldn't make a difference if you were claiming tax credits as a couple. You wouldn't have been overpaid.
If you were claiming as a single person then, yes, it will.

*claiming as a couple already

This isn't going to be a problem if you've been cohabiting anyway. They would need to know about a name change etc if that happened.

We’ve always only ever claimed as a couple since first getting them

And I haven’t changed my name either
