To need a diet that works

Dietfailure · 15/02/2019 18:38

Just to warn you, this will not be easy. I've tried and failed at just about everything, I can't cook, I dislike a lot of foods and I think I have a bit of a weird thing where once I eat something I struggle to stop.

Historically I've done best on meal replacement plans.

Help!?

Try myfitnesspal.. calories in calories out..create a deficite & you should lose weight

YellowLilies · 15/02/2019 18:45

Slimming world

FatMe · 15/02/2019 18:46

Try Team RH Fitness on Facebook.

It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change, etc etc but it’s the only thing I’ve ever found that feel sustainable.

Dietfailure · 15/02/2019 18:46

Tried both, failed miserably Grin

By definition they should all work

But if youre not following thdm properly none will

But then diets are short term fixes and not long term

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 15/02/2019 18:46

I'm using MFP and tracking intake. I have a 1000 cal deficit at the moment

Lost 3lbs this week. Not particularly increased exercise as I struggle with that.

importantkath · 15/02/2019 18:47

Why are you failing?

To be honest, it sounds as if the issue isn't the eating plans.

Do you have much willpower OP?

Dietfailure · 15/02/2019 18:48

No, although I think I could get some.

My problem is I have a bad day and then that's it, I can't seem to get back on the wagon.

SummerHouse · 15/02/2019 18:48

I think low carb is the best. I have success with 5:2 but fall off the wagon much easier with that.

Forget diets and have a closer look at your binge eating? Ie. get proper addiction therapy?

Dietfailure · 15/02/2019 18:52

That won't work ... it's something I have to control.

GooodMythicalMorning · 15/02/2019 18:52

Noom. log everything that goes in your mouth. as long as you create a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

SmarmyMrMime · 15/02/2019 18:53

To work long term, you need to be able to prepare sensible portions of healthy food that you will eat. That is the root of the problem. Meal replacement shakes are not sustainable and don't solve your problem long term. Your body needs fibre from vegetables and fruit (as well as their vitamins), complex carbs, some healthy fats and proteins. Synthetic shakes are not the same as real food. Even plans like Slimming World rely on eating vegetables as part of the plan and it won't work if you don't eat the right balance of food types.

Preparing healthy food doesn't have to be complicated.

What do you like/ dislike?

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 15/02/2019 18:54

You need to learn to cook - sorry.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/02/2019 18:56

If there was a diet that worked, there wouldn't be so many diets! Unfortunately it's just a case of working out what works for you. Are you a bored eater? Comfort Eater? Do you do better with rigid rules, or fasting/treat days?

Dietfailure · 15/02/2019 18:57

Rigid rules, more rigid the better really

OP posts:
AtrociousCircumstance · 15/02/2019 18:58

Eat half of what you’d usually have. One slice of toast, never two. Less of everything. Eat a piece of fruit while you’re craving sugary rubbish. More veg, less carbs.

But you know that it’s not about a magic diet. You have to get your head right. That’s all. It’s hard though, I know.

EssentialHummus · 15/02/2019 18:59

You need to figure out what your triggers are and work around them. I do 5:2. I have enough willpower to wait about 12 hours for a doughnut/cake, so eating much less two days a week is doable. I couldn’t do low carb, because I love bread and chips. I couldn’t do SW/WW or similar because I don’t really get on with counting points etc.

ShadyLady53 · 15/02/2019 18:59

Another one that says Team RH is the best, healthiest lifestyle wise but I doubt it would work if you were faddy and couldn’t commit to eating proper nutrient rich foods or regular exercise.

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 15/02/2019 19:01

Diets don't work. They make you obsess over food. The number one indicator of future weight gain, is being on a diet.

Google intuitive eating. Look up Laura Thompson PhD on Instagram. Just have a look.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/02/2019 19:02

My most successful diet was cutting out processed food. Also meal planning and just shopping for those meals.

DH and I both struggle to keep weight off so we have depressingly empty cupboards as neither of us are good at resisting temptation.

Didntwanttochangemyname · 15/02/2019 19:07

You need to take some responsibility. You can't blame a 'diet' for not working, it's you that isn't doing it.
In pretty much every case - eat less and you will lose weight.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 15/02/2019 19:10

Eat less and move more.

My SIL has lost a whopping 3.8 stone using weight watchers along that philosophy over two and a half years. She learned to cook (before it was all convenience food), went to a meeting once a week and walks a minimum of 10k steps a day.

Oh and don’t buy unhealthy stuff. Sounds really bloody obvious I know but if there’s none of that crap in the house, you can’t eat it!

ilovepuppies · 15/02/2019 19:11

Rigid rules don't work - I'm the same as you. Can have a great week and one "slip up" and then I'm back to where I started and eating like there's no tomorrow.

I've started not dieting which sounds counter productive but I've sacked off low carb, keto, meal replacement and the other 100s of diets I've tried and I've just started to make better choices.

So far I'm 5 days binge free which is the first time in many months.

Removing the rules has been key. I still roughly track by among for 400-600 calories per meal which is surprisingly flexible- even the traffic lights system is good so a quick glance and you want to look for mostly green with the odd red.

I've also found the healthy ready meals like M&S balanced for you really helpful when I've Ben teetering over the past few weeks.

It does take discipline but shouldn't be too restrictive or you're setting yourself up to fail. You're only human!!
