EBay scam?

Hi posting here for traffic, I put an expensive gadget up for sale on eBay yesterday. It was on auction or buy it now. Not long after that I got a notification that it had sold already. But when I went on to my ebay account to check this..it said 'awaiting payment' on the item and I had received this msg off him:
"kindly get back to me with your PayPal email address so that I can make the payment and you can get the item posted as soon as possible because am getting it as a Birthday Gift for my fiance. Kindly send to my email: [redacted]

Cheers."

Is this a scam? I don't sell on eBay often but I've never had anyone ask for my email address before because it all gets processed through eBay. Thanks

That is odd.

Just message him back and say 'just pay with paypal via ebay!'

Are you the same poster as ChipButty67?

If not this is the third thread on this topic this week! Apparently it is a scam and you should only accept cash on collection.

Scam. Two treads on it already. Do not allow payment outside of eBay!

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 15/02/2019 16:26

You've put his email address up there Hmm

redyawn · 15/02/2019 16:26

They don't need your email address to pay. Just click the 'send an invoice' button and send them a message back saying you have send an invoice and all they need to do is follow the payment instructions on there.

ScreamingValenta · 15/02/2019 16:27

Well known scam. He'll send you a fake PayPal email. Ignore.

I'd relist it and change it to require instant payment after buy it now has happened.
