...do teachers really work that hard?

I know the general idea on AIBU is that teachers work load is ridiculous, that they work extra hard and that they never never stop to the point that they r all seemingly leaving the profession.

But, AIBU to wonder if they are any different to anyone else? and actually might have it a bit easier? I mean, I also work myself into the ground, am exhausted, never stop etc... But I don't have summer holidays off to look after my kids, and I often work well into the small hours at night.

I'm not saying teachers don't work hard, but sometimes on munsnet I just feel like some teachers kind of spend a lot of time complaining about the workload, when maybe it's just the same as everyone elses, but with a nice long summer holiday?

(Sorry, I appreciate this will really inflame some posters, but it just had been annoying me lately)

Stopmakingafooloutofme

I don’t have to make a fool out of your doing it all on your own! 😂

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 19:58

you're

eventually succumbed.

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 19:59

Aww damn it 🙈 ha ha

SmileEachDay · 12/02/2019 20:00

your intelligent because you swear?

I don’t have to make a fool out of your doing it all on your own!

*you’re

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:01

Wait piggy was that aimed at my post?

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 12/02/2019 20:01

Clearly I'm more intelligent than you. It's you're, by the way.

And no. If I want to complain about my job, I will. The education system is shit, and things need to change. As I've said before, I'll continue doing it because I am making a difference to real lives, which means more to me than anything else. What do you do that's so special?

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:01

I’m gutted I gave you that in 🙈 ha

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 20:03

colly Grin Back to school for you!

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:09

I know I am gutted piggy was pushed! I’m a haematology clinical educator who’s currently doing my masters, so I don’t think I’m a total dumbass. Stop making a fool, your the exact teacher that gives teachers a bad name. Aggressive, arrogant and hard done by. To the other teachers who love your jobs, the public does appreciate you despite what you think.

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:09

Also typing on your phone just asks for typos.

txtbreaker · 12/02/2019 20:10

the F word and saying "Yeah". It's bad enough from everyone else but you guys especially.

I was told to F off by a maths teacher when asking for a register. I was quite shocked at the time being naive and putting teachers on a pedestal. Some teachers work hard some don’t but they aren’t saints they are just like everybody else. It’s silly to think otherwise. Cleaners work hard. So do doctors. Nobody holds a gun to a teachers head and forces them to teach Wink

noblegiraffe · 12/02/2019 20:11

Nobody holds a gun to a teachers head and forces them to teach

I think you haven’t read the new DfE recruitment and retention strategy.

joliejoleen · 12/02/2019 20:12

@Colly1616

Again... *you're

MissMarplesKnitting · 12/02/2019 20:12

Absolutely.

So if everyone could stop asking if teachers work hard, and start being a bit more supportive we can all just crack on.

joliejoleen · 12/02/2019 20:13

@lou12124

Oh, go away now, please. I'm not going to sit here and let you talk about teachers' holidays and all the fucking perks of my job when I'm on day three of battling a vomiting bug and at the same time trying not to fall behind with marking.

spanieleyes · 12/02/2019 20:13

Oh, for heavens sake!
Teachers work hard
Nurses work hard
Police work hard
Everyone sodding works hard.

There, will that do?

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:15

Ffs 🙈! Ha ha ok I’m clearly not a teacher. This is why no one likes you guys by the way because you point out our flaws 😂. That’s a joke by the way. I actually have a genuine problem with spelling, it doesn’t mean I’m not intelligent though. It just sadly means I have to work a bit harder when writing and proof read my uni work about 67 times.

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:17

spaniel eyes you are totally right we all work hard that should be the end. Peace out ✌🏻

becauseIcare · 12/02/2019 20:20

Really hard to respond to your post as we do not know what your job and pay is. This information would make it easier to respond to you.

My suggestion to you would be to switch your job immediately and become a teacher as you are so confident it is an easy option. I personally feel exhausted after my children's birthday party being responsible for a group of children.

The work and responsibility teachers have is considerable and the pay and holidays could never be enough.

LJdorothy · 12/02/2019 20:20

Any teacher who told a pupil to f* off nowadays wouldn't keep their job. Please stop thinking that because you've all been to school you know anything about teaching in 2019. You really don't. I'm getting sick of saying the same thing. Teachers aren't arguing that other professions/careers aren't hard. And I don't know a single teacher who thinks of themselves as saintly. All we're saying is teaching isn't the easy job some people on here are claiming, without any evidence other than they know a friend who teaches. are related to someone who taught 30 years ago or because they had a teacher they didn't like/respect.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 20:21

I don't think I have once been aggressive on here.

It is our job to point out errors and I resisted and resisted but then you started correcting and upbraiding others so I thought, why not? Apologies if this offended.

User298895613 · 12/02/2019 20:21

I didn't say it was an easy option :) I don't want to be a teacher (of under 16s anyway). I'd not be much good at it for one thing! If teaching is really bad (I'm not saying it's not) then why do people teach?

OP posts:
LJdorothy · 12/02/2019 20:22

Yes, we all work hard. Let's stop this now please.

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 20:22

Piggy are you talking to me?

Lou12124 · 12/02/2019 20:23

@joliejoleen

Sounds like you should give up teaching and write a novel or play the violin 👍🏼 boiled eggs and plain toast babes bye!
