...do teachers really work that hard?

User298895613 · 11/02/2019 09:15

I know the general idea on AIBU is that teachers work load is ridiculous, that they work extra hard and that they never never stop to the point that they r all seemingly leaving the profession.

But, AIBU to wonder if they are any different to anyone else? and actually might have it a bit easier? I mean, I also work myself into the ground, am exhausted, never stop etc... But I don't have summer holidays off to look after my kids, and I often work well into the small hours at night.

I'm not saying teachers don't work hard, but sometimes on munsnet I just feel like some teachers kind of spend a lot of time complaining about the workload, when maybe it's just the same as everyone elses, but with a nice long summer holiday?

(Sorry, I appreciate this will really inflame some posters, but it just had been annoying me lately)

Why do people keep putting their daily schedules on here. I’m aware you all work hard. But listing your daily roles doesn’t warm me to you as teachers, it proves the point that some of you feel hard done by. And I can’t believe how many people are swearing on this thread

I put mine on in response to someone saying teachers needed better time management.

Why does that make me hard done by?

If you’re offended by the swearing then you don’t have to continue to read or post. Easy fix.

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 19:39

I’m not offended I’m just shocked that professional people can’t voice their opinions without resorting to swearing, shows a lack of imagination to be honest.

I think teachers are Awsome a few of mine shaped my whole future and outlook on life. It’s seams to me that some of teachers in this feed are just living up to the stereotype you are all so offended by.

Londonmamabychance · 12/02/2019 19:39

Just a bit of statistics and journalistic research to back up the general points made my so many.

www.theguardian.com/education/2017/jul/08/almost-a-quarter-of-teachers-who-have-qualified-since-2011-have-left-profession

also, if teaching was such a cushty job then WHY DONT YOU CONSIDER GOING INTO THE PROFESSION?

joliejoleen · 12/02/2019 19:40

@Colly1616

Why can't we swear? People swear (on mumsnet and in real life) all the time. So what's the problem?

halfwitpicker · 12/02/2019 19:41

Holidays are lovely and a definite perk of the job

^^

THANK YOU

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 12/02/2019 19:42

Erm, why can't we swear? I cunting love a fucking good swear.

MiGi777 · 12/02/2019 19:43

It's not nice to see teachers on here using the F word and saying "Yeah". It's bad enough from everyone else but you guys especially. 😬

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 19:44

It didn’t say you couldn’t swear just surprised you can’t express your self without doing it. We are taking about your proffesion here I thought people might try and keep it professional. I love a good swear word but only in an appropriate context. The person in the thread that said the C bomb at the original person who shared theit opinion just sounded stupid 😂😂

Lou12124 · 12/02/2019 19:44

@joliejoleen

Again proves my point..less time debating + more time marking = free weekends 💃💃

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 12/02/2019 19:46

i just do not believe that teachers spend their giant holidays working. Of course they don't

Um... I do. First week is usually taking down old displays, cleaning under and behind everything, throwing out broken resources, rearranging furniture etc. Then there's planning, new display boards, disinfecting the outdoor area and all its equipment, painting the storage sheds, touching up paintwork inside the classroom, making new resources, getting the computer systems ready, new tracking books, training courses, other areas of the school that need joint maintenance such as the hall, library and veg patch. That's all with the DC in tow as I can't afford childcare.

Holidays indeed.

SmileEachDay · 12/02/2019 19:47

I’m not offended I’m just shocked that professional people can’t voice their opinions without resorting to swearing, shows a lack of imagination to be honest

Shocked. Hm. Ok. That’s your prerogative obvs. Tone policing is such passive aggressive bollocks though. It’s just a way of trying to discredit what people are saying, without bothering to engage in the content.

And I have some very imaginative swears, as well as tried and tested standard swear words. Wanksplash and cockwomble are two of my favourites.

Ro2017 · 12/02/2019 19:47

My husband and I are both teachers. He is currently recovering from a mental health breakdown due to the stress of the profession. He is on antidepressants and having CBT. The GP didn't even seem surprised that this had happened as a result of teaching.

It seems we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. When we are accused of not working hard we reasonably defend ourselves by stating the stresses and strains of our job and then we are accused of moaning.

halfwitpicker · 12/02/2019 19:48

Swearing is good, BTW

SmileEachDay · 12/02/2019 19:48

*perogative 🙄

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 12/02/2019 19:48

It's not nice to see teachers on here using the F word and saying "Yeah

Whut? We can't say yeah? What the actual fuck?

I thought people might try and keep it professional

Nope. We're on Mumsnet. I'm not in my professional role. I have no need to be professional on a public forum, and most of the teachers I know are extremely sweary once the children have gone home. I don't think cunt is a stupid word, in fact I quite enjoy it. There's actually been research to suggest that people who swear are lore intelligent. You might want to look it up.

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 12/02/2019 19:50

*more. Clearly I've been planning too much D&D Grin

Hazlenutpie · 12/02/2019 19:50

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 12/02/2019 19:51

shows a lack of imagination to be honest.

I can swear fluently in two languages, enough to pass by in other two. One of them is brilliant when it comes to swearing, as any word can become one is you add two more words to it. The sky's the limit...literally as there is swearing with the word sky in it.Grin

SmileEachDay · 12/02/2019 19:52

Oh FFS Hazle

Can’t read.
Or type.
Or spell, apparently.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 19:52

You were right first time btw : it's prerogative.

Once a teacher...Grin

I could go through and correct all the misspellings in PPs but that would be very childish. And I thought smile might not mind, unlike others who might accuse me of being a moaner.

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 19:53

Dammit, someone else got in first. Gah.

Chosennone · 12/02/2019 19:53

Again... recruiment and retention crisis

SmileEachDay · 12/02/2019 19:53

😂😂 see previous post Piggy

Colly1616 · 12/02/2019 19:54

Ha ha people who swear are intelligent?. Are you implying your intelligent because you swear?. I have read that in multiple articles to be fair. But I will tell you the most intellectual move of all time. Do a job that makes you happy so you don’t constantly complain 😂😂😂😂

Piggywaspushed · 12/02/2019 19:54

Teenagers swear all the time ... loudly. Much more now than ever in schools. It's certainly not something their teachers have taught them.
