am looking at theatre website. i want to buy tickets to take my 15 year old son to see a shakespeare play tthat he is doing for GCSE.

Tickets for under 16s are 25 pound.
tickets for 16-25 year olds are 5 pound.

wtf?

would it be unreasonable to buy him a 16-25 ticket and lie?
he's nearly 16 anyway!

I don’t understand the people who turn up at expensive attraction knowing what the attraction’s rules and pricing policy are.

But then decide that the rules are inconvenient to them, and so decide that they are entitled to lie and cheat the rules.

It’s fraud, pure and simple. Since when has “otherwise I couldn’t afford it” or “I thought it was too expensive so just took it” been a justification for theft?

Particularly abhorrent when a charity is the victim.

My local play centre charges £1 if you’re under 10m and £5 if you’re over. There are ten play areas and non-walkers are only permitted in one area. So from age 10m until you learn to walk you pay full price but only use a tenth of the facilities! I feel no shame in saying DS is under 10m - I’ll pay full price when he’s allowed to have full use of the facilities.

OP the theatre pricing is ridiculous, I wouldn’t pay £20 extra!

gingerandsmall · 10/02/2019 22:33

If it's the RSC or the Barbican, I'm a regular there and they always always ask for ID for all 16-25 tickets

Enidblyton1 · 10/02/2019 22:37

If you don’t need ID to buy the tickets, I’d get them both the cheaper 16-25 tickets, but I suspect you will need proof of age.

I’m surprised the school isn’t taking them on a school trip to see their GCSE text? School theatre trips were the highlight of studying English for me. Do schools not do this any more?

Silkyanduna · 10/02/2019 22:55

I think there should be more of a range regarding ticket prices at zoos it seems to be under 2/3 free then it rockets up to not much difference between a kids and adult ticket. What about under 3 free up to 6 a small but not massive charge ect. Then parents who want to take kids to these places can but don’t feel like it’s a waste when the child ends up asleep/ not interested/having a strop.

OwlBeThere · 11/02/2019 02:41

@Assassinatedbeauty, I didn't want to go there, given the choice i'd have spent the £50/60 i did spend on gin and crisps. but it was one of my other kids' birthday so I had to suck it up. If a place closes because it operates a daft policy and so people lie, then that's their shit business model's fault, not mine. I have no guilt at all for doing what I did. and I'd also have had no problem paying a full price ticket if he'd been able to use the full facilities.

ANYWAY....OP, i'd check you aren't going to be asked to provide ID, and then buy the cheaper ticket if you can.

This is hilarious.... You are basically calling yourself out as an entitled, blameless, shameless, selfish thief. At least you are honest (to us if not the charity you stole from). Well done 👍🏻.

Both abrogating all responsibility for your actions AND victim blaming. Really clever @OwlBeThere Hmm.

Following your logic: if I’m “daft” enough to leave my bag open, you’d entitled to steal my purse. It would be entirely my fault.

Although I bet you’d be screaming like a stuck pig if it was YOUR purse that was stolen in that scenario.

Zoo prices in the UK sounds insane! I live in Australia and kids up to age 15 are free on weekends and school holidays. Adults can buy a yearly membership that works out to the same price as it would cost to visit the zoo 3 times. There are 3 zoos in my city and one membership works for each.

Arn’t the people who lie about their kids ages worried that their kids will correct them? I know my kids would 😂

Yes, yes, but back to the zoos. Grin

Glad it was all sorted.

Vintagewannabe · 11/02/2019 17:44

I am a common criminal. Not at the zoo (we don’t visit zoos) but in the bus.

I once ran for the bus with a grumpy 5 year old and a 2 year old in a pram. I got to the stop and realised I only had enough change for myself. The next bus was 45 mins and we lived miles away. So I told the 5 year old to run on and I told the bus driver she was 4 so she could go free

I’m going to hell

DishingOutDone · 11/02/2019 17:48

So the theatre are CONDONING this sort of behaviour?! Thieving bastards. Take him to the zoo instead.

Bozlem80 · 11/02/2019 17:49

I’ve done it before now & lied about my DD age when we went to Alton towers, I can’t justify the price for a 4 yr old which she was at the time but only by a week when under 3’s are free, also at a hotel I told them my then 16 yr old daughter was 15 because they wanted an extra £100 off me when I put she was 16!

merrybloominchristmas · 11/02/2019 17:55

Obviously if the theatre were presenting a drama based in a zoo I would automatically pay full price for him. I don't think there are any exotic animals in romeo and juliet though?

My local play centre charges £1 if you’re under 10m and £5 if you’re over

That is truly bizarre since I've never met an adult over 10m, let alone a child!

Justaboy · 11/02/2019 18:03

Sees mad to me those theatre prices for young people should be almost giveaway to encourage them to see the works of olde Will and his like.

Took my then ten year old DD1 to see McBeth OK prolly a bit young but she was facisinated by it and has been thearre going ever since:)
