am looking at theatre website. i want to buy tickets to take my 15 year old son to see a shakespeare play tthat he is doing for GCSE.

Tickets for under 16s are 25 pound.
tickets for 16-25 year olds are 5 pound.

wtf?

would it be unreasonable to buy him a 16-25 ticket and lie?
he's nearly 16 anyway!

'if you can't pay, don't go, rather than defraud a charity'

But say tickets are £30pp. They would then get £0 instead of £90ish? Admittedly a £90 that should be £120, but surely the £90 is still better than nothing?

spugzbunny · 10/02/2019 14:55

Surely it's a typo? £2.50 and £5 instead of £25 and £5. Otherwise it's total madness! They won't be asking for ID anyway so just buy the £5 ticket

merrybloominchristmas · 10/02/2019 14:55

an adult ticket is 29.00
an under 16 25.00
a 16-24 5.00

and got to say, my son would willingly go and see shakespeare!
if i get these tickets, he'll be thrilled!

I brought my 14 year skating recently and bought a child's ticket ( 12 and under) in order to get a family discount for family if 5..... no one noticed .
Go for it!

Designerenvy · 10/02/2019 15:02

Bobbycat121 · 10/02/2019 15:04

AngelaStorm73 · 10/02/2019 15:20

I must be a mug I always pay the right age tickets for my DCs
I think I'd just be mortified if someone found out, not because I actually have a conscience Blush

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/02/2019 15:26

merry some cinemas (our local Vue does) show live screenings of plays .
Of course they won't be the play you want at the time you need but worth looking out for if he'd go to Shakespear plays anyway?

AssassinatedBeauty · 10/02/2019 15:28

Is the 16-24 price a discount price for students with a valid student ID card?

WilyMinx · 10/02/2019 15:29

Opened this thread expecting to respond with "don't lie" but the price difference is absolutely outrageous. I'd ask my 15 year old if he minded me lying. If he did, I probably wouldn't take him to see it until he turned 16 (or not at all if he only turned 16 after completing his GCSEs).

WinterfellWench · 10/02/2019 15:32

Lie. Obviously. No brainer.

Hopefully they don't require proof.

BrokenWing · 10/02/2019 15:37

ThatThingYouDo tbh we are on the same page there, I wouldn't expect someone who steals from charity and has no shame about it to change their ways based on a MN post either. Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/02/2019 15:41

Jesus Christ. What with this and the shoplifter thread. No wonder prices are hiked all the time and the honest mugs have to pay for it.

ThatThingYouDo · 10/02/2019 15:42

My local zoo is free for under 3s but £20 for over. Only a mug would pay it if you can get away with it. I pay for my older 2 but I would stick them in the pram aswell if I could!

WinterfellWench · 10/02/2019 15:46

There are some right smug, judgy-pants on here

Who the fuck pays full price when they can get away with paying half? (Or less than half!)

Some people don't have the luxury of having lots of surplus income like some of the smug, judgy posters on here.

And as a pp said, surely it's better to get a family of 4 in (for example,) who pay say, £50 in total, (instead of £90,) than getting £0!

I went with my kids to a certain attraction, and they were under 14, but the woman on the gate didn't believe me. It was going to cost £75 for all 3 of us (as 3 adults,) but £45 with them 2 going in as kids.

I said 'I am sorry, I can't afford £75, and they are only 12 and 13 anyway, so I shouldn't have to pay it anyway. Sorry....' Then I turned away and walked off with them.

'COME BACK' I heard as I got to 15-20 feet away with them.

'We will let you in this once.'

'Thank you.' I said.

As I said, better for them to get £45, than £0. Because no WAY would I have paid full price for a 12 y.o. and a 13 y.o.

BarbarianMum · 10/02/2019 15:49

A mug - or someone who valued the zoo and wanted to see the animals there well cared for and the staff paid a living wage. Dont mistake greed for cleverness.

hotwing · 10/02/2019 15:50

PoundS! Urgh. Don't be so right

hotwing · 10/02/2019 15:52

Tight! Don't be so tight.

Frogstaring · 10/02/2019 15:54

Some things are just extortionate, including zoos and I don't blame anyone who isn't prepared to pay £30 for their toddlers to run past all the exotic animals to get to the adventure playground and duckpond.
Also, not sure how it's defrauding. It makes no difference to them whether I don't go and don't pay or go and don't pay (to clarify, when we have gone I have always paid for myself and older DC). I'm not taking anything from them, am I?
But I do say this as someone who doesn't especially like zoos.

Bobbycat121 · 10/02/2019 16:01

I spent £40 in the gift shop last time I was there for a keyring, a cup, a couple of lollies and sweets and some drinks. I was horrified when she said “£40 please” theyre getting there money back, trust me!

ILoveBray · 10/02/2019 16:02

Frogstaring

Absolutely. £30 admission for a toddler who is 3 months over the 'Free' threshold is extortionate. If these places were a bit more realistic with their prices then those people on very low incomes could enjoy them legitimately.

Steamedbadger · 10/02/2019 16:03

If it's the RSC, they say on the website that they do require proof
