To think mumsnet abbreviations...

Am i being unreasonable to think mumsnet abbreviations are utterly moronic at best, bordering on.. i don't even know at worst. Does it not take most posters more time to look up which idiotic abbreviation they need than it would to just write it? And the sheer saccharine "D" prefix. Come on. It's laughable, and sickening. It sounds like school children talking in code, but without half the moral and emotional discrimination. Everybody is a "dear" something no matter what.

What does DFOD mean?
I googled it and it said dark fusion or die?
Confused

Do Fuck Off Dear

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 11/04/2019 23:55

Dopey Fucking Old Dorises

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 11/04/2019 23:56

Which frankly is what the 1950s "darling husband" brigade sound like Grin

I don't care for them either and probably made a similar post when I first found Mumsnet, but I was a bit of an idiot and so are you, OP. Do you expect everyone to say 'Oh you're totally right, we'll stop using D-this and D-that right away, thanks for showing us how silly we all are'? Because of course that's not going to happen. You just want to make the other users feel bad for being a bit cringeworthy.
If you get over that desire to make people feel bad for not being as cool as you think you are, like some kind of mean girl from school, you'll find that the best way to make the change is to be the change. Be a useful, quality contributor and don't use the abbreviations. If enough people do that over time, they'll fade away. Or they won't, and if you can't handle it, then go somewhere else.

I thought I'd heard every sickly and twee abbreviation until I had to look up BD. Baby dancing, fucking baby dancing! Jesus Christ.

I used to be a teacher, and frequently used a teaching forum. They used to take the piss mercilessly out of Mumsnet in general, but in particular AIBU and the abbreviations.
I wasn't a Mumsnet user at that time, but do think it's a bit rich when teachers are generally so well supported on here!
Anyway, I cannot bring myself to use the abbreviations. I'd rather take a few extra seconds to type out 'daughter' or 'leave the bastard'. Grin
I just really, really dislike them ... and posts that are peppered with DH, BF, DD, DSIS etc etc, set my teeth on edge.

CamillafromCobham · 15/04/2019 15:38

I don't mind DH/DP actually or even DC/DS/DD. But I despise ddog and pretty much all the rest. I mean ddog, DDOG! Can't you just say my dog!

Lilyrose9 · 22/09/2019 19:44

You're right!! They are so irritating 😂, I don't understand why people will type out every other word correctly but shorten "son" or "partner" etc.. And who really calls members of their family "dear"? 🙄😁
