To think this must be a scam?

I just had a phone call, and when I answered, it was an automated message telling me that my internet connection was going to be disconnected within 24 hours as my IP address had been compromised from several countries. They said my IP address would be changed, and I should press 1 to be connected to a technician.

I did not press 1. I am assuming that, if I had, and had followed the technician's advice, they would have had access to my computer and all my passwords, bank account data etc.

I hadn't thought of that, @easyandy101 - either way, I'm glad I avoided it.

They get a pre planned simple anglo saxon message her that goes;

"Will you kindly go fuck yourselves"

I wouldnt have BT here anyway, shower of shite.

Grace212 · 08/02/2019 12:24

what is the comeback if someone thinks it's genuine and presses 1?

I'm worried that one of these scams will get mum eventually Sad

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 08/02/2019 12:25

Are people getting these on mobile phones or landlines, I get them on my landline nearly every day though some are blocked by BT call protect, I am considering not having my landline as they are so annoying and I rarely use it anyway

whiskybysidedoor · 08/02/2019 12:38

I didn’t know that one thanks OP.

We do get lots of scams though, especially there is something wrong with your computer blah blah.....

I usually put the phone down but sometimes I will say please no this is a scam. They used to accept this and just put the phone down but recently they’ve been getting quite aggressive, one lady with an heavy Indian accent told me she was coming to my house to take my computer away as I was too stupid to use it correctly!!

I love to play along with these “Microsoft” calls. They have a fit when I finally tell them I use Ubuntu as my operating system. My record in keeping on on the phone is just over an hour.

I told a bloke who called me that he was right, I had been in an accident. In fact ti was so serious I had died in it.

He told me to "fuck my mother". Their mothers must be so proud.
