10yo ds is a little bit geeky: and wants to try and fit in a bit with the cool kids. I get that.
He has announced he wants to save up to buy a Tommy Hilfiger top Shock
As a rule I don't like buying named brand stuff unless is particularly for quality but i understand his desire to
Fit in.
What other "cool" brands work for tweenage boys?
Hype is one
Who else

Can you not see the attitude is different?

And can you not see that 'teach him not to be a sheeple' is profoundly unhelpful and patronising when applied to the OP?

BenjiB · 11/02/2019 17:18

Both mine like adidas stuff. My daughter also likes hollister. I got her quite a lot of stuff for Xmas all reduced loads.

Reaa · 11/02/2019 17:31

Mine wear

Moncler

KWD
Siksilk
Kenzo
Nike
Adidas

Not at all, it's a waste of time posting when she's already bought the stuff. Confused
I'm not the only person to have posted about teaching them the importance of being individual.

My 10 yo is a bit geeky but my dp loves fashion and brands. He wears Adidas and Armani both bought from JD? Also.... Lyle and Scott a while ago but not sure if that’s still cool x

Fightthebear · 11/02/2019 18:39

Looking individual may mean no brands at all or the very niche brands.

I went into Palace (skate boy brand) in SoHo recently and the clothes were fantastic, definitely individual and original, but god they were expensive. I felt quite happy with Adidas for DS after that.

Most teens seem conflicted in wanting to fit in but also stand out. I’m trying to teach DS not to be a lap dog to consumerism but safe to say he’s not quite there yet Grin

HandsOffMyRights · 11/02/2019 18:46

My DS (13) only wears Nike/Adidas trainers and non branded hoody/joggers from Primark. His brother's the same (and I'm very grateful). They're not into clothes/hair.

Somethingsmellsnice · 11/02/2019 19:03

Tell him to look on depop which is a selling site for brands for 'preloved' 2nd hand stuff). DS buys things there and then sells them on 3 months later for his next season's wardrobe

Rubusfruticosus · 11/02/2019 19:03

12 year old won't wear anything with obvious branding, though is okay with a small logo. It's more about the picture, colour, fit, softness, pockets, and so on. He has jogging bottoms from Sports Direct because they are thicker and better quality than the supermarket ones. He has quite a few Fatface t-shirts from eBay. He is fussy and has his favorites, but brands only come into it as far as buying that brand because they have been good in the past.

lljkk · 11/02/2019 19:15

14yo has zero interest.
17yo would like to buy everything on Oxford St (twice).
19yo buys his own, but not much (wears uniform at work). Likes grown-up not hot fashion brands.

PrismGuile · 11/02/2019 19:20

@LiveCCTV it's nee-chee

Walnutwhipster · 11/02/2019 19:21

Levi
Tommy
Hollister
Vans
Sik Silk
River Island for jeans.
Nicce
They wouldn't wear Hype.

Todaythiscouldbe · 11/02/2019 19:31

I used to be really smug about DS (14) not being interested in brands. Loved that he would happily wear Primark. Was shocked when he came home from shopping with Armani and Hugo Boss!

LiveCCTV · 11/02/2019 19:52

@Prism thank you!

Is he is secondary school in September this year or next? My DS found his tribe at secondary and now has a good group of friends who are into science and technology, reading fantasy and science fiction, Warhammer and so on. He didn't fit in with the group of 9 boys in his class at primary, but that didn't matter as soon as he finished year 6.

MrsJBaptiste · 12/02/2019 19:59

@CouldbeAnyoneReally Sorry, just seen this!

DS is average for his age and can just get away with the largest boys tracksuit bottoms (XLB I think) but the XS mens hoody was just a bit small in the arms. Such a shame as there £10-15 difference between the boys / mens hoodies 😡

CouldBeAnyoneReally · 12/02/2019 20:20

@MrsJBaptiste thank you. I suspected as much. Ds is 12 but tall so I suspect the 12-13 won’t fit then. And he’ll need the mens size in Good for Nothing which is madness Angry

SadOtter · 12/02/2019 20:34

Any that I have not chosen or in anyway commented positively on.

For example DS had much loved slazenger hoody that was getting small, I bought him a new one, the same but a bigger size, this was wrong. I pointed out some Nike trainers in the shop, they were apparently hideous. he has always liked Nike before.

QueenofLouisiana · 12/02/2019 20:58

DS is 13: Superdry, Scott and Lyle, Nike, Vans backpack, Northface. Jack Wills for smellies. Expensive sports related kit is considered fine for hanging out with his sports team mates.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/02/2019 21:36

As you're asking about teen boys I will happily push my DD (16) shpping habits to the back of my mind ( She loves her brands )

DS : 19yo, University student , 5'10" , very thin ( I think his waist is 26"-27" . Near impossible to buy the leg:waist he needs so they normally hang round his arse in the way that makes you want to give him a wedgie Hmm )

I usually pick up clothes for him , sometimes DD will suggest something , though usually she'll say he only needs a Primark top because he doesn't care , while she wants a Champion or Adidas one !

H&M jeans (he doesn't care about brand , more fit and colour)
Nike trainers (I dragged him into Sports Direct and asked one of the sales staff )
He has a The North Face fleece
Trespass waterproof ( minimal logo and function over flashy)
H&M T-shirts (sooo soft)
H&M hoodies
Primark
Underwear -H&M, some Levis , various ones picked up in TKMaxx (again the fit for his tiny frame rather than brand)

He has a couple of jackets from Costco, no branding but really nice , well fitting and warm

Fleece from Berghaus (sp)

All loungewear/nightwear Primark or Sainsbury.

Christmas present dressing gown from Peacocks .

I am really lucky he's not into brands as DH and I still buy everything for him. Smile
