10yo ds is a little bit geeky: and wants to try and fit in a bit with the cool kids. I get that.
He has announced he wants to save up to buy a Tommy Hilfiger top Shock
As a rule I don't like buying named brand stuff unless is particularly for quality but i understand his desire to
Fit in.
What other "cool" brands work for tweenage boys?
Hype is one
Who else
Tia?

My son is into skateboarding clothing (he does skateboard), like vans, thrasher but also Adidas joggers. You can get Adidas pretty cheap at sports direct.

ErickBroch · 08/02/2019 14:09

Champion - very popular and 'cool' with streetwear

Fightthebear · 08/02/2019 14:19

Blimey, they all seem to like the same stuff.

DS(11) has got v keen on brands since starting Y7, no interest before that. It’s Adidas, Nike, Vans & North Face coat.

I try and stick with unbranded tops to avoid the whole “Roadman” look.

ZanyMobster · 08/02/2019 14:20

DS almost 13, likes Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie and Fitch, Superdry, Adidas and Nike. We buy from outlets though so better value than Next even.

Fightthebear · 08/02/2019 14:20

And I also hate branded stuff in general OP but want to help him fit in, within reason.

ZanyMobster · 08/02/2019 14:21

He does buy skinny jeans from Primark as they peel on Grin and are really soft

ZanyMobster · 08/02/2019 14:22

It's nice though as his friends all have their own style, they don't seem hung up on big logo'd stuff so no pressure at all.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 08/02/2019 14:24

Superdry, Levis. Mostly its all about the shoes though - Adidas Superstars, Nike, Vans, Converse.

CouldBeAnyoneReally · 08/02/2019 14:25

Your best bet is to try and find out what local teens/tweens are wearing. Round here no teen would be seen dead in Superdry - it’s a dad brand. Also North Face.

Popular brands with my ds are Nike, Adidas, Sonetti, Hype, Good for Nothing. But only small logos though apparently.

CouldBeAnyoneReally · 08/02/2019 14:25

Yy to Adidas superstars.

Lovestonap · 08/02/2019 14:26

My son (9) couldn't give a stuff about what he wears apart from wanting to wear football kit all the time. But I know if/when he gets interested I'll probably give in far too much. I remember well those awful non-uniform days when I never had anything trendy to wear.

Roomba · 08/02/2019 14:28

Primary or Sainsburys here. DS doesn't seem interested in clothes much, but no doubt that will change at some point. He was very fussy about which school bag he got though, but I can't recall what brand it was now.

goldengummybear · 08/02/2019 14:29

If you lived round here, JD Sports is where you'd get clothes.

A safe look would be Skinny jeans (especially black) with a longish top from Nike, Hype or similar. A big no to Superdry here (it's worn by the parents ). Nike trainers are the most popular trainers for boys round here.

iklboo · 08/02/2019 14:30

None yet. He's got no interest in clothes or fashion and his mates don't either. It might all change in a few years though.

iloveredwine · 08/02/2019 14:30

adidas, nike, puma, elessie, north face, Ralph Lauren, tommy Hilfiger, money here

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 08/02/2019 14:33

DS13 likes all the same as above (Hype, Superdry, Sonnetti, Adidas, Nike, Fila).

I also found some Ellesse tshirts in TK Maxx, which i bought for all 3 DC, which were very well received.

With his birthday money he bought a really lovely and thick Levis hoody, and was looking at Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, but couldn't find anything he liked.

His sister just bought him a Kenzo t-shirt for a party tonight, and she loves all the same brands.

Not everything has to be labelled - he's happy to have a few nice branded jumpers/hoodies and trainers, then will be more than happy with H&M jeans and plain t-shirts underneath.

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 08/02/2019 14:34

Oh, and forgot the Nike socks

Christ, our washing basket is usually about 33% full of black and white Nike socks.

CouldBeAnyoneReally · 08/02/2019 14:36

Yeah I’d get unbranded (H&M?) skinny jeans and plain t shirt with a “cool” hoodie and trainers. Re trainers I generally load up Sports Direct, refine by ds size, order from price low to high and tell him he can choose any he wants for max £30 (or whatever). There’s always something he likes.

CouldBeAnyoneReally · 08/02/2019 14:36

Omg ds has just asked for Nike socks. I told him to jog on Grin

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 08/02/2019 14:39

CouldBeAnyoneReally Smile Smile
we bought the first couple of packs between DS13 and DD15 a couple of years ago - they're happy to share

since then they club together and buy their own!

Eve · 08/02/2019 14:39

Both mine who are older teens (16 and 19) try to avoid 'brands' and labels where possible.

They actively avoid anything with a logo - which is tricky and wont go near superdry, any sports brand, any designer brand.

Levi's seems to be acceptable.

...and yes - does making shopping for / with them very tricky!

JaffacakesAreCakesNotBiscuits · 08/02/2019 14:46

13 Yr old ds.
Suoerdry..
Hollister
Adidas
Nike
North face
Levis

But to be fair he's normally happy in a tracksuit.. When I buy nice jeans etc.. They don't get worn. I leave him to it now..
Were going clothes shopping in a few weeks he wants to go alone ( but he's an awkward size and I know he'll get it wrong. And I can't 100 percent trust him to go alone.. That's another story)
So I've said ill go but keep my opinion to myself regarding his choices.. Well I'll Try lmao.

donkir · 08/02/2019 14:48

My 16yr old loves hollister and has done for a few years

Tidderbus · 08/02/2019 14:50

Huf adidas Levi’s Ralph Lauren Armani Nike Ellesse and Gucci (!) are acceptable apparently but again we live by an outlet 😂

PosiePerkinandPootle · 08/02/2019 14:52

Superdry and Jack Wills are pretty out now that more parents wear them (but like converse). Nike & Adidas for hoodies, joggers and trainers. DS asked for stuff from Napapijri for his birthday. Has North Face jacket for school and Under Armour stuff in his gym kit. Has an Abercrombie hoodie that he bought 2 years ago while on holiday in Florida. It's too short and I've tried to get it in a charity bag 3 times now but he's grabbed it back. Think I may need to chip in to top up his birthday money so he can replace it. A lot of his friends have Lyle & Scott jackets and shirts and I've noticed quite a bit of Jack & Jones.
