To ask where Sarah (and Duck's) mum is?

Catren · 08/02/2019 10:10

Lighthearted obviously, but dd3 has been asking me this, and lots of other questions about tv shows where the adults are conspicuous in their absence while the child goes on fantastic adventures. Who is looking after Sarah? Is Plop Bing's grown up?

Can we have a consensus? That Sarah's mum is at work, while daddy (narrator) is looking after her? and filming everything

Any other shows that your dcs ask boring sensible questions that you wish you had the answer to?

Tia

My thought was that Sarah's dad was narrating/ cake baking etc and her mum was AWOL

GrapesAndCheese · 08/02/2019 10:47

sorry I couldn't help myself

I read this a few years ago and it still resonates.

She's run off with Max & Ruby's parents

Kismetjayn · 08/02/2019 11:02

I don't know who Sarah is, or duck, but I love Flop. He is my parenting idol. My motto is 'what would Flop do' in every parenting situation. Total role model.

MoonriseKingdom · 08/02/2019 11:03

My DD went through a phase of playing ‘big girls without mummy's’! She’d picked up that some of her favourite characters (including Sarah) didn’t have a mum. She often tells me Catie and Maddie from CBeebies don’t have mums because they are big girls.

Charlie and Lola are the ones I have always worried about. Especially poor Charlie. Practically raising Lola by himself.

Catren · 08/02/2019 11:17

Howling at the open letter! 🤣 are you a sock flop?!

And yes, poor charlie. Their parents are just NOT around! He's doing it all. Does he get carers support?

Moonrise that's very astute! Was she still in charge though? My dd likes to make me play babies and big sisters. I'm NEVER the big sister.

I always found it a little surprising that Topsy & Tim's mum is so very middle-class whilst their dad looks, acts and sounds like Lee Mack (when I first saw it, I checked the credits thinking the actor might actually be Lee's brother).

Fair enough, opposites attract, she likes her bit of rough, nothing wrong with that.

What really foxed me, though, was discovering that T&T's posh grandmother was actually their DAD'S mum. Maybe some things just skip a generation.

I love the letter to Flop, but when the writer asks about Bing's car seat, it occurs to me that Flop, being smaller than Bing, must also have a car seat - and probably a lower 'group' number than Bing's. Is it very easy to drive a car - let alone reach the pedals and gear stick - whilst strapped securely into a baby seat?!

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 08/02/2019 11:29

While we're at it, whose parents are Grandma and Grampa Pig?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 08/02/2019 11:29

I keep waiting for the episode of Ruby and Max where Ruby finally snaps and just leaves Max behind somewhere and dobs her parents in to social services.
Where ARE they?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/02/2019 11:42

While we're at it, whose parents are Grandma and Grampa Pig?

According to Wikipedia, they're Mummy Pig's parents.

What's with the size thing, anyway? Why is Edmund - a young elephant - smaller than Dr Hamster the vet?

I always chuckle at the episode where they're learning about shadows and Dr Elephant says that his shadow is longest, because he is the biggest (because he's an adult and the others are children, not because he's an elephant) - considering that he's voiced by Andy Hamilton, who is not especially known for being big (and who often mentions his diminutiveness)!

MoonriseKingdom · 08/02/2019 11:44

Catren - yes she is always in charge.

I find Max and Ruby very disturbing. There is an episode where someone leaves her to look after their baby!

wildbhoysmama · 08/02/2019 11:52

Bloody loving this. That open letter is inspirational. ' Do you ever mouth Arsehole behind his back?' GrinGrinGrin

peachgreen · 08/02/2019 12:19

Oh my god that letter is EVERYTHING.

On the BBC site Flop is officially (and enigmatically) listed as Bing's "carer" so I can only assume he's being paid to put up with him and that's why he manages to stay so calm.

This was my exact thought and I Googled this guy too!!

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 08/02/2019 12:44

All I know about Sarah and Duck is that I aspire to have the confidence of who ever was commissioned to make the title music, and then stood in front of their employer and presented......that!
