'We've run out of food' - said McDonald's. WTAF?! (First world problem, light hearted!)

Yesterday,I had a voucher from a newspaper for a Big Mac and medium fries for £1.99,so decided to treat myself on my way home from meeting up with my DD. As I approached the shop,I noticed that it was in darkness, but with people still inside sitting at tables, eating, and staff behind the counter. I went in and asked a passing member of staff what was happening. She said 'We're just about to close because we've run out of food'. Shock Is this actually possible?! Has anyone else ever had this?

@SpringForEver they sound like they've been held for far too long. They should be nice and soft in the middle and just golden brown.

Ingredients for the goujons:

Yellow Split Peas, Tomato, Breadcrumb (8%) (Rice Flour, Gram Flour, Maize Flour, Amaranth Flour, Maize Starch, Teff Flour, Salt, Dried Glucose Syrup, Dextrose, Emulsifier (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids)), Cooked Arborio Rice, Rice Flour, Sundried Tomato Pesto (7%) (Water, Sundried Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato, Salt), Tomato Paste, Red Wine Vinegar, Olive Oil (Refined Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Basil, Red Onion, White Sugar, Garlic Puree, Cornflour, Black Pepper), Red Pepper (7%), Water, Sunflower Oil, Maize Starch, Onion, Rapeseed Oil, Maize Flour, Basil, Garlic Puree, Salt, Black Pepper, Thickener (Xanthan Gum).
Prepared in the restaurants using a non-hydrogenated vegetable oil.

I haven't eaten them (and likely won't ever because I'm mildly allergic to basil) so can't comment on the taste.

SpringForEver · 08/02/2019 15:47

Thanks Mouse, I can't eat basil either and thought the queasiness afterwards might have been caused by that, and of course, garlic puree, that always has a nasty aftertaste. You won't be missing anything, they are truly horrible.

Have to find somewhere else to get my junk food fix, stuff sitting around for hours can't be allowed surely?

Wondering if Burger King has also changed a lot, although it is a long way to go to find one...

This has turned into a McDonalds AMA Grin

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 08/02/2019 16:43

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue - is there any way we can nominate you for a staff award because of your awesomeness?

DiagramFan Ha ha thank you Grin I have actually won a few awards over the years Smile McDonalds are great as a company for recognising their staff.

That's it for me then, those goujons are disgusting. What on earth is in them? Basil and some kind of spice that tastes like rotting compost?

SpringForEver They’re red pesto goujons, and it’s a shame you don’t like them. They’ve been very well received; our customers love them and in my particular store sales of veggie products have nearly tripled. It’s similar for other stores in our group.

As I said, the cheese sides change with every promotion. Currently they’re Mozzarella Dippers, previously they were Cheese Melt Dippers (with Camembert cheese), so if you don’t like one particular cheese side it’s worth waiting for the next promo in case you like that one.

This has turned into a McDonalds AMA Grin

DrFoxtrot I did actually do one of those about a year ago now! I thoroughly enjoyed it as I love my job but I got so many rude replies I let it fizzle out.

CookPassBabtridge · 08/02/2019 16:45

Woah I never thought this would happen. I'm still miffed about the mocha being discontinued Sad

EssentialHummus · 08/02/2019 16:52

On a related note, I go to a particular (dodgy) branch of McDonalds once a week and witness a stand-off each time between someone wanting a breakfast item at 10.31am, and the poor soul who happens to serve them. Every. Bloody. Week.

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 16:56

It happens every day with breakfasts. We have to stop them at some point and it's been 10:30 for pretty much ever.

OvO · 08/02/2019 17:02

I had the worst ever McDonald’s milkshake last week. It was runny and tasted weird.

I’m still writing angry emails in my head. Blush

It’s a new McDonald’s and has had a million complaints already. Clearly managed by an utter puddin'.

AlpacaPicnic · 08/02/2019 17:16

Wailmer and Mouse, have you seen the film The Founder?
I thought it was very interesting. Ray Kroc was a bit of a shit but you can't deny he had a vision and the ruthless attitude to make it happen!
I'm so fascinated by his story.

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 17:19

No, I keep meaning to watch it and I haven't had chance yet.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/02/2019 17:32

If we're having a McDonald's AMA, can I ask why the round eggs always have the yoke broken into the white? Is it a deliberate effect, or just an unfortunate side effect of the cooking process? Thanks.

BarbaraofSevillle · 08/02/2019 18:00

I remember a time when they did breakfast until 11, which I think is much better, or even 11.30. Who wants burger and chips at 10.31 in the morning?

MrsSteveMcDonald · 08/02/2019 18:06

I remember when one opened next to college about 1999/2000. We went over in a morning break to get something and were gutted that we couldn't get chips until 10:30. Don't like anything on the breakfast menu

SweetAndSourPrawnBalls · 08/02/2019 18:06

I really want a Bit Mad now 🍔

SweetAndSourPrawnBalls · 08/02/2019 18:07

BIg Mac! Bloody autocorrect 😏

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 08/02/2019 18:10

Of course it happens, delivery issues, equipment failure, staffing issues etc...

abbsisspartacus · 08/02/2019 18:17

My son always has extra gerkins with his cheeseburger happy meal they didn't give him enough so the lady who was cleaning overheard him and got him a bag full of gerkins to eat seriously no point to this post except my son is a wee bit strange

Meagain19 · 08/02/2019 18:23

I saw the Founder, DH and I loved it and were talking about it for days after.

ipswichwitch · 08/02/2019 18:26

I bloody love the gherkins too abbsiss. I’m firmly in the wee bit strange camp 😂

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 20:52

I don't do kitchen but I'm sure the yolks are broken so everything cooks properly.

Milkshake sounds like the machine wasn't working properly (not freezing, or too many shakes had been pulled in one go)

If you ask you can have a box of pickles (usually, some managers don't like doing it)

Tiny plea as a customer experience leader; if you have good service, please fill in your food for thought. We get a bonus through them (currently on how accurate we are but everything is measured, from how many 'feel good moments' you had to how clean the loos are) it's a really useful thing but so many people don't bother with them.

cardibach · 08/02/2019 21:35

Wait - they’ve stopped doing caramel sundaes? It was bad enough when they stopped being hot. Not being able to get them at all is a disaster!

dippymootoo · 08/02/2019 21:52

I miss caramel sundaes too!

I tried a Big Mac with bacon - after a very long wait through the drive through and having driven away - I discovered mine had no sauce at all! Very disappointing.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/02/2019 21:53

I’m gutted that my kids don’t like MaccyD’s anymore, I can’t remember the last time I had a Big Mac. I too love the gherkins.

The person asking about Cromer crabs - very few of them are caught there anymore, most of them come from Spain I think.

The80sweregreat · 08/02/2019 22:28

Brexit come early! We all better get used to ' no food here guv' line.
