'We've run out of food' - said McDonald's. WTAF?! (First world problem, light hearted!)

Yesterday,I had a voucher from a newspaper for a Big Mac and medium fries for £1.99,so decided to treat myself on my way home from meeting up with my DD. As I approached the shop,I noticed that it was in darkness, but with people still inside sitting at tables, eating, and staff behind the counter. I went in and asked a passing member of staff what was happening. She said 'We're just about to close because we've run out of food'. Shock Is this actually possible?! Has anyone else ever had this?

You should be pleased, McDonalds will ruin your health and the planet. Pigswill is more nutritious.

And today’s Pious Poster award goes to ...........😴

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 11:10

Just realised that no-one has addressed the op's question. The supply chain is pretty good but if the lorry breaks down or is late then yes, they could run out of some items. I've never heard of a store running out of everything though.

I do wonder though if they meant they were closing early and so couldn't cook anything because they were closing kitchen down?

BarbaraofSevillle · 08/02/2019 11:12

When it came it was plain, steamed lobster. I queried it and was told it was because they had run out of garlic and butter - this in a busy seaside town with a Sainsbury Local, Tesco Express, a massive Waitrose and several independent Asian supermarkets within 500 yards

I once had to send crumpets back in the Asda cafe because I refused to eat them with the shitey catering margarine that the assistant put on them (that she lied about and said was butter).

When I finally got her to admit that the stuff in the big white tub that she called butter wasn't actually butter, she said that they didn't have any butter. It was all I could do to not go on a rant about the whole fridge of butter I could see in the shop from the cafe.

People who call 'spread' butter should be shot, closely followed by supermarket managers that make rules that over-ride any sort of common sense such as not allowing a supermarket cafe to use the products in the supermarket when the cafe supplies run out (and yes it was an actual Asda cafe and not an independent business, although it probably is a separate business for tax evasion purposes).

Oh God now I want a McDonalds

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 11:14

@HoustonBess

Check your facts there. I'd say McDonald's has some of the best quality fast food, as well as the most commitment to both environmental responsibility and sustainability than any other fast food place.

How many takeaways are still using styrofoam, for example? Hell McDonald's is the only major fast food brand to be using paper straws!

BarbaraofSevillle · 08/02/2019 11:15

And they send their cups for recycling.

Njordsgrrrl · 08/02/2019 11:15

My nearest McDonald's is a two hour drive away. Now I know what it's like to live under a dam in Brazil #firstworldproblems

WhatToDoAboutWailmer. As you’re in the know would you mind answering a question for me? The bacon roll on the breakfast menu, why is the bacon so pale and flabby or is it just my local McD. I’ve asked for it to be well cooked only to be told it can’t be varied, that’s just how it is. ☹️ Thank you.

1984isHappeningNow · 08/02/2019 11:17

@BarbaraofSevillle I get a happy meal with a coffee all the time! You can also get hot choc etc. If it's one you'd pay extra for on a normal meal ie caramel latte then it's a little extra.

NewGrandad · 08/02/2019 11:19

I remember working in McDs about 30 yrs ago and we ran out of buns. Nobody's fault as half the High Street (not ours) had a power cut and it was a Saturday. And the local Wimpy or Burger King was in the dark half. Made a deal with them and served our products on their buns. Very bizarre.

winsinbin · 08/02/2019 11:20

LOL!!
No one buys McDonald’s for its nutritional value. It has become an international phenomenon because the food is delicious and as an occasional meal in an otherwise balanced diet it won’t do you any harm.

I’m staying in Wembley tonight (off to see the Strictly tour) and after the show I won’t be ordering overpriced hotel room service - I will treat myself to a Big Mac and fries -yummy!

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 11:21

@BarbaraofSevillle not just cups, most of the plastic waste, the cardboard and the used cooking oil are all recycled.

@AlexaAmbidextra it's steamed rather than done on the grill.

ambereeree · 08/02/2019 11:21

I really want a cheeseburger now.

Apparently it's ready cooked and reheated by steaming

The good news is it probably won't give you cancer? The healthiest way to cook bacon from a not-getting-cancer perspective, is to microwave it. Something about heat reacting with nitrites.

ambereeree · 08/02/2019 11:24

Years ago (late 90s) i used to work in macds and we would cook the bacon on the gril. I would make a crispy bacon burger for my break. Ahhh good times.

AlexaAmbidextra · 08/02/2019 11:26

Questionable and Mary. Thank you for that. Surely though if it comes in ready cooked then it should be cooked more thoroughly in the first place? It’s such a disappointment for a bacon roll. I’d much prefer it griddled.

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2019 11:27

I think it's difficult for supermarket cafes. They must have a list of allergens for every item they sell so I guess departing from that and grabbing stuff off the shop floor would technically mean they weren't adhering to policy re allergens.

costacoffeecup · 08/02/2019 11:31

I had breakfast in Sainsbury's cafe a few weeks ago and they'd run out of beans. I did think about suggesting they go and grab a few tins off the shelf. Pub running out of wine though 😱

bobstersmum · 08/02/2019 11:34

Surely it's all frozen stuff anyway? You'd think they'd be stocked up. Never known a mcds run out of food!

QuestionableMouse · 08/02/2019 11:34

@AlexaAmbidextra I actually agree. Not a fan of the back bacon, especially as we do crispy bacon for other products.

Bluesmartiesarebest · 08/02/2019 11:39

While we’re discussing McDonald’s, has anyone tried a twix McFlurry? Is is better than a crunchy McFlurry?

EnoughSnowAlready · 08/02/2019 11:40

I'll never forgive McDonalds for getting rid of the caramel sundae. They were so much better than the McFlurry.

We were staying at a hotel with pub attached recently which was hosting (much to their surprise) a traveller wedding. By 9pm they had run out of Guinness, all types of lager, alcopops, cider, rum, whiskey, most soft drinks and white wine. Luckily adult DD and I like red wine so we were able to sit quietly in the corner of the bar and enjoy people watching.

ihatethecold · 08/02/2019 11:44

Has anyone watched The Founder on Amazon prime about McDonalds. its very good.
