Chicken pox @ Centre Parcs?

MisstoMrs · 07/02/2019 13:47

Currently at Centre parcs and was horrified to see a child in the swimming pool who was covered head to toe with what was clearly a very active case of chicken pox.

My DS is nearly 3 so I expect him to get chicken pox at some point, I’m really not worried about that. But in a pool, with loads of small babies, when we’re all on holiday? It just seemed really selfish to me. AIBU?

It is incredibly selfish. Some people just really don't give a shit that their stupid, selfish actions could literally kill someone. But hey, why do they care as long as it's not one of their loved ones

Darkbaptism · 07/02/2019 13:50

Very selfish, hopefully someone pointed that out to them.

Soubriquet · 07/02/2019 13:50

That’s awful

My children had chicken box about month before we were due to butlins.

Dd got it first and recovered before the holiday due date but we was concerned ds would get it.

We called butlins and cancelled as we could still get a certain amount of money back, and they outright told us that it’s a good job we cancelled because if we had turned up with a child who had chicken pox, we would have been escorted straight off site

Strict but necessary I think if people aren’t going to use their common sense

Soubriquet · 07/02/2019 13:51

Oh and ds did come down it so good job we cancelled

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 13:51

I would report it straight away.

Stressedout10 · 07/02/2019 13:52

In the pool Shock🤢

babysharkah · 07/02/2019 13:52

That is exceptionally selfish and I'm amazed they didn't get called out in it unless it was actually something else. When dts has infected eczema it look like CP and it was all over. Admittedly I wouldn't have subjected their poor skin to chlorine.

MisstoMrs · 07/02/2019 13:55

@babysharkah it was definitely chicken pox. Poor thing was absolutely covered. She looked so miserable. And no wonder!

I'd have pointed it out to staff. Must breach guidelines somehow.

MisstoMrs · 07/02/2019 13:57

Glad it isn’t just me then. I have to be honest, I didn’t confront them, I just grabbed my DS and got out as fast as I could. With hindsight that was pretty selfish too. I haven’t had it so it would affect me too and I just wanted to get away Blush To be honest though if you’re brazen enough to bring your child into the pool I’m not sure what saying something would achieve?

Report to lifeguard and they could tell person to remove child?

Report to reception and they could contact lifeguard if you didn't want to be seen talking to them.

MisstoMrs · 07/02/2019 14:03

@bryjam that’s fair. I didn’t think of it at the time but if I see them again that’s what I’ll do.

Was it definitely chicken pox? It’s hard to believe that someone could be THAT selfish.

There are a few skin conditions where children have lesions that look like chicken pox all over their body. Mastocytosis for example.

Abigwhale · 07/02/2019 14:08

My son came out with it abroad and as soon as we spotted the first spot we isolated him. It was a complete nightmare and involved an extended stay as he couldn’t fly home....

punishmepunisher · 07/02/2019 14:09

Have you told the CP staff? Reception desk? Security?

SoyDora · 07/02/2019 14:10

Some people are just stupid. DD2 got chicken pox 6 days before we were due to go to Center Parcs. We ended up cancelling the morning we were due to go as although she was almost scabbed over she had 2 that were still blisters.

OMGithurts · 07/02/2019 14:11

That's appalling, every time I've been to CP there are dozens of knackered looking pregnant women trailing after toddlers in the kiddie pools. I hope the previous posters are right about it being something that looks like pox but isn't.

SuperDuperJezebel · 07/02/2019 14:12

Oh dear, which one are you at?

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 14:12

It’s hard to believe that someone could be THAT selfish.

Oh they are. Just the other day one of the women my friend works with left the office early because her DS nursery called. She took the child, complete with chickenpox, into the office to see everyone! It's a smallish office with around 15 people in the are she works within, 2 of the other women are pregnant as well!!

Although I'm not sure if that was selfish or stupid Confused

Seeleyboo · 07/02/2019 14:13

If the blisters had scabbed then they're no longer contiguous.

MamaLovesMango · 07/02/2019 14:13

I don’t know about that. There was a thread on here only a few weeks ago asking if she was UR to take her DC with a stomach bug swimming that morning 🤷‍♀️

MisstoMrs · 07/02/2019 14:13

@Seeleyboo they hadn’t

OP, I’m afraid you can’t know for sure that it’s chicken pox. My friend had really bad excema when we were younger and people used to often assume it was CP. Her Mum used to get really upset at people staring and making nasty comments.
Please don’t be that person.
A quiet word with the lifeguard would have been a good idea.

Herculesfan · 07/02/2019 14:16

Oh god, nightmare. Which one is it?

MrsStavrum · 07/02/2019 14:16

Oh no! We are at CP too! Which one are you at??
