LIGHTHEARTED ish

Instead of two 500g jars of sausage casserole sauce - I'm getting one packet of Colman's sausage casserole mix HmmGrin

@SneakyGremlins thanks! Sausage casserole on the menu this weekend!

needsleepzzz · 07/02/2019 13:25

@SneakyGremlins i use packet, mix with water as directed (like lots of sauce) and into the slow cooker, about 30 mins before eating we add cornflour to thicken the sauce :-)

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/02/2019 13:27

I love homepride sausage casserole amazing with mashed phototubes. Sadly Morrisons don’t sell it anymore will have to take a trip to Asda.

VanillaSauce · 07/02/2019 13:28

Sounds like quite a sensible substitution really. You can still make the sausage casserole.

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 13:29

It's not so much the substitution as the quantity that's annoying me.

IN MY DEFENCE, YOU VIPERS,

You tell them Gremlins!

They'll be laughing on the other side of their face when they see you later this year refusing to so much as bump fists with Paul Hollywood on Bake-Off, and shoving Greggggg into the sous-vide ignoring Gregggg's inanities on Masterchef!

(Hoping you are on the up-and-coming series - we are clouting on you to keep the Gurning Grocer in his place behind the door.)

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 07/02/2019 13:36

MyDcAreMarvel, its such a bother when your phototubes are subbed. Have you tried Ocado?

BrinkPink · 07/02/2019 13:38

mashed phototubes also sounds like a substitution :o

Well here's mine, I can't even remembered what I ordered, but something totally normal like a packet of biscuits, and I got 2 jars of pickled walnuts. I kept them out of curiosity, but on closer inspection they looked too gross to eat so ended up in the school fair hamper collection.

Knittedfairies · 07/02/2019 13:39

mashed phototubes? I'm assuming that's an auto-corrected potato, but what is a phototube?

Knittedfairies · 07/02/2019 13:40

phototube
/ˈfəʊtəʊtjuːb/Submit
nounELECTRONICS
a photocell in the form of an electron tube with a photoemissive cathode.

But can they be mashed?

WonderTweek · 07/02/2019 13:42

I had my best ever sub on Tuesday. I ordered a fairly big standard whisky that was on offer. They'd run out and subbed it with a lush 15-year-old single malt that was worth quite a bit more than the whisky I ordered. I squealed. Grin

I have been given cat food instead of rabbit food before mind.

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 13:45

Grin Lucky you!

Don't you find that sausages done in the slow cooker look a bit like floating penises?
or is that just me

CheesyWeez · 07/02/2019 13:50

I once ordered a pack of 20 fishfingers and got 20 packets of 10 fishfingers.
That was a win! but I had to get my neighbour to store some in her freezer as I didn't have enough room

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 13:56

Can't say I've ever noticed any slow cooked penises here Grin

OP posts:
Eliza9917 · 07/02/2019 13:57

Yeah! I just put them in raw, or even frozen, leave it cooking on low for 8 hours and they're super tender when they're ready

But they won't be browned though, are they like boiled sausage?

DianeAdores · 07/02/2019 13:59

I dunno about supermarket substitutes, but hospitals are good at such things. I asked for a cup a soup (was struggling to swallow, having had a tube down my throat for 24 hours) and was given a two-pack of cream crackers.

MissB83 · 07/02/2019 14:02

I always brown sausages before putting in slow cooker, they look better and add a nicer flavour to the dish!

elemenopeee · 07/02/2019 14:10

Slow cooking meat from frozen? Envy

Skiphopnjump · 07/02/2019 14:14

Don't worry OP I use jars or sachets for every casserole I ever make and I am not ashamed Grin

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 14:18

What's wrong with cooking it from frozen? Hmm

I once got apples instead of chocolate. I think they were making a statement.

recrudescence · 07/02/2019 14:24

The Colman’s sausage casserole mix is actually really nice - thank you for reminding me. Have just added it to my Ocado order.

Soubriquet · 07/02/2019 14:27

What's wrong with cooking it from frozen

That I can answer!! I do a lot of frozen food but sausages do tend to look pale when they are in a slow cooker and cooked from frozen

They are effectively boiled

I like sausages with a bit of colour to them

Youknowmedontyou · 07/02/2019 14:30

@Bluetrews25 you can beat a nice sausage casserole......

It's a sausage casserole with dumplings! Delicious!!
