Instead of two 500g jars of sausage casserole sauce - I'm getting one packet of Colman's sausage casserole mix HmmGrin

@SweepTheHalls I do a bastardised version of the same recipe. I add fresh chillis , peppers and mushrooms. Delicious and really easy, I didn't know casserole sauce was a thing!

BIgBagofJelly · 07/02/2019 12:51

I love these threads as it gives me an excuse to talk about the time I had ordered limes (along with fish sauce, lemongrass, coriander etc for a Thai curry) and it was substituted for lime scented boot polish!

BreakYourselfAgainstMyStones · 07/02/2019 12:52

Sauce in a jar Shock

I once ordered a tin opener and got a tin of tomato soup, but it was the one without the ring pull on it so I couldn't open it due to lack of tin opener Grin

thecatsthecats · 07/02/2019 12:54

My life has vastly improved since I started buying packet microwave rice and jar sauces and just bunging in the requisite amount of fresh veg.

sashh · 07/02/2019 12:54

I ordered spring roll wrappers, they sent 2kg of frozen prawns.

ANother time I ordered 2 pieces of their own brie, they delivered 2kg of president brie.

I've tried ordering the small 2 glass wine mini bottles in the hope they will substitute full size, but no luck so far.

SneakyGremlins

Reduce the liquid by 50-75% and it will be fine

BloodyHellBeryl · 07/02/2019 12:54

What's wrong with jars and packets?
I'm all about convenience Grin

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 12:54

IN MY DEFENCE, YOU VIPERS,

I have always BAKED from scratch.

I'm just not a great cook - not bad, just average level - and quite frankly I can't be fucking arsed sometimes Grin

Mmmm the Hairy Bikers Suasage & Bean Casserole is one of my staple dishes. With veggie sausages.

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 12:56

Would it make people pass out if I told you the veg I put in with the casserole sauce is from the freezer? Wink

@sashh Ooooh thanks! Will do. Love the wine substitution plan Grin

Kochicoo · 07/02/2019 12:59

sneakygremlins not the point but do you just put uncooked sausages in with that sauce and leave in slow cooker? I quite like the sound of that.

Oh and I once ordered a bottle of sauvignon blanc and they brought a peach and melon wine cooler low alcohol thing.....cause that was clearly easier to find than any other bottle of white wine Confused

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 13:01

Yeah! I just put them in raw, or even frozen, leave it cooking on low for 8 hours and they're super tender when they're ready Smile

Oh..for a friend I mean...asking for a friend

MissB83 · 07/02/2019 13:02

I normally cook from scratch in slow cooker but that packet sauce is tasty!

Kochicoo · 07/02/2019 13:02

Great, thanksSmile. She'll love that, I'm sure.

violeticecream · 07/02/2019 13:03

@SneakyGremlins another not the point but are your frozen veg a casserole mix? I can never find a good one for me as they all include leeks which are vile to my tastebuds!

phoenix1404 · 07/02/2019 13:04

Think the best I've had is when I ordered lemon juice and got lemon washing up liquid.

Lyricallie · 07/02/2019 13:04

The hollandaise sauce packets are great. Who’s got time to make it from scratch?!

Never tried the sausage one, but I just use bisto for my sausage stew 😂

grumiosmum · 07/02/2019 13:05

Not as bad as when I got a fresh mackerel as a substitute for smoked.

Imnotswallowingthat · 07/02/2019 13:07

I once ordered rhubarb yoghurts and the substitution was rhubarb scented Method cleaner.

SneakyGremlins · 07/02/2019 13:07

@violeticecream I'm beginning to feel like I'm doing a MN webchat Grin

I have frozen onion, frozen pepper, frozen carrot and frozen leek, in separate bags/tubs in the freezer. I buy the first two ready frozen and cut up and freeze the last two myself Smile

I will still never forget the poster who asked for tampons and got.........party poppers Grin

Or pregnancy tests and got condoms. Talk about locking the stable after the horse has bolted.

BillywigSting · 07/02/2019 13:12

Hey I'm a chef with proper qualifications from culinary school and everything (not just a microwave monkey for weatherspoons) and I quite like that packet.

It's not as good as from scratch but it is tasty enough and you can shove it in the slow cooker. Needs good sausages but it's basically just bullion, dried tomato and a bit of flour.

Definitely don't use as much water as it says though or you'll end up with sausage soup.

I once got five packets of fish sticks instead of a side of salmon as a substitution. Needles to say it didn't get accepted.

Have also been substituted nappies two sizes down from what was ordered (size up I could live with)

MumW · 07/02/2019 13:14

I get frustrated when I've ordered something from the FreeFrom range and it's substituted with a normal version of a product.
I bite my tongue and send it back - it's just down to lack of training/understanding of the picker. I will usually phone to point out the ridiculous error but I'm not sure training hss improved.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 07/02/2019 13:17

@SneakyGremlins, I always use Colman's sausage casserole mix in the slow cooker. I use half the amount of water on the packet. and you can always ad some later if you need too. If you don't think there will be enough in only one packet, if you have any passatta, chopped tomatoes etc you could ad them to bulk it up.

purpleweasel · 07/02/2019 13:19

@BreakYourselfAgainstMyStones I love that, it has a certain circular poetry
