Just that really. Ive been watching the Now 80's channel on Sky and Lady in Red is on it a lot, I remember my DM and my aunties loving the song. They were obsessed with it actually, and it was huge. But really, he's such a funny looking man. I can't imagine him ever being considered attractive or sexy?

I doubt it, I remember he was considered a bit creepy at the time.

NorthEndGal · 06/02/2019 22:54

It was because we couldn't see him, only hear him.....

legolimb · 06/02/2019 22:55

Not that I remember.

NorthEndGal · 06/02/2019 22:55

Sorry, to clarify, we only heard him on radio/ cassette player , not video, so we didn't know better

Redshoeblueshoe · 06/02/2019 22:55

I'm clearly in your mum's age group, the song was very popular, but one look at him - well sexy he wasn't Grin

sackrifice · 06/02/2019 22:56

No. Hope that helps.

SpiritedLondon · 06/02/2019 22:56

Neither are lots of singers eg Elton John.

MsVestibule · 06/02/2019 22:57

Nope!! And although the song was hugely popular, it was always considered a bit naff.

MrsEricBana · 06/02/2019 22:58

Nope

thenightsky · 06/02/2019 22:58

I must be your mum's age group. I saw him live back in 1974 or 75. He was the support act for Supertramp. I was surprised that he didn't look like I expected. He definitely had a face for radio.

Frangipane · 06/02/2019 22:58

Why does he have to be good looking to be the singer of a popular love song? Confused

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 06/02/2019 22:59

Absolutely NOT!!!!!

BreevandercampLGJ · 06/02/2019 22:59

Was the lady in red not the au pair ?

Squigglesworth · 06/02/2019 23:00

Back when (more) singers were famous because they could sing or write/play music than because they had "the look"...

Doobydoobeedoo · 06/02/2019 23:04

I think the only person who ever had a thing for Chris de Burgh was his wife.

My DM loved the song but referred to him as "the one with the caterpillar eyebrows".

LightDrizzle · 06/02/2019 23:04

No! I was around at the time and he wasn’t.

BreevandercampLGJ · 06/02/2019 23:07

That will be the au pair he was shagging whilst his wife was literally flat on her back in a neck brace for months with a broken neck following a horse riding accident.

He is a vile, creepy, individual.

When the game was clearly up with regard to his career, he started bankrolling his daughter to Rosanna.

Singlenotsingle · 06/02/2019 23:08

Like spirited says - eg. Ed Sheeran isn't the best looking, is he? He looks like a Muppet. Roy Orbison? (My all-time favourite singer, but a bit creepy looking).

ManicUnicorn · 06/02/2019 23:09

So the answer is no then?

OP posts:
AornisHades · 06/02/2019 23:10

I was a teenager so it's a no from me.

Pomello · 06/02/2019 23:10

His wife is worth fifty of him. Luckily she's rehabilitated now but she's done lot of fund raising (quietly) for Enable. I believe.

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/02/2019 23:11

the lady in red wasn't the au pair! That was years later , he wrote a song about her, the blue jeans blonde hair one.
Nope, he's never been considered a sex symbol with very good reason

squiggleirl · 06/02/2019 23:22

I think the only person who ever had a thing for Chris de Burgh was his wife.

I'd have said the only person who had a thing for Chris de Burgh was Chris de Burgh.

JaneJeffer · 06/02/2019 23:22

No, nay, never!

Dowser · 06/02/2019 23:22
