To ask how you look fresh and nice after your morning commute?

I feel I always look dishevelled and a mess after an hour of bus and train Sad In this weather, I'm layering up for the walking/ waiting for bus portion of the journey, and though I take off my coat am feeling too warm on the train. It's not that I'm sweating profusely, it's just uncomfortable. My face always feels grubby from the filth of public transport too.

How the hell do you manage to look and feel fresh and well put together after commuting in the morning?

Am fed up looking a mess.

I work from home so I have no direct experience of a long commute.
But...
Would going make-up free whilst commuting, then freshening up with wipes or micellar water and doing your make-up in the work loos make you feel any fresher?

Donmesswime · 06/02/2019 21:51

I get the early train and put my makeup on when I get to the office.

StupidCommute111 · 06/02/2019 22:00

Yeah maybe doing make up at the other end of the journey is the way forward. I just see women on the tube looking great with perfect make up and hair and envy them, they look so put together.

If I'm in good time (ha!) I take my coat off on the platform and cool down. If I wait until the train I'm too warm and there's too little space to do it. And I open the train window. I dread the day when we get new train and I can no longer do this. I had to commute on the new Thameslink ones for a bit and they made for a much crapper morning.

Lockheart · 06/02/2019 22:37

What on earth are you doing on the bus and train?

I get ready at home. My commute involves 20 mins of walking (in all weathers!) and 20 mins on the train. Also in central London. Unless the weather is utterly biblical in proportions my hair and makeup tends to be where I left it when I went out of the house.

ConkerGame · 06/02/2019 22:39

I also do my make up and brush my hair when I get to work. I take off my coat and scarf just before getting on bus/train so don’t get hot.

ErickBroch · 06/02/2019 22:43

I do a 45 min commute into London then a 30 min walk to the office - my hair needs a brush but other than that?? Could you get a setting spray if it's make up coming off? I am not sure what is impacting you on your commute.

bibbidybobbidyboo · 06/02/2019 22:47

Are you wearing too many layers to commute in? I've learned over the years that I would rather forgo a jumper and feel a bit cold when I first step out of the house than arrive at work covered sweat. You heat up as you travel

itsboiledeggsagain · 06/02/2019 22:50

Yes wear fewer layers. A bit cold first thing is the answer. Also a hat for end of work or if your hair can take it that morning. And I sometimes take a tea to drink firstly to wake me up and secondly to keep me warm.

filth of public transport?

CaurnieBred · 06/02/2019 22:57

Hairspray. Been a big convert in the last 12 months. Stops frizz.

starabara · 06/02/2019 23:01

I’ve a 3/3.5 hour commute, all be it by car.

I do make up at the other end, and I keep Water wipes to freshen before I put the make up on.

I dry hair at home, and style in the car at the other end too.

TheGlitterFairy · 06/02/2019 23:08

Hour and 15 mins door to door for me including walk, bus, tube and waking the other end. It’s easier when it’s not cold or raining. Flat shoes or boots to commute in and I take heels with me. Scarf off on tube as it’s always too hot with too many people. Middle of the carriage if standing so you get a tiny bit more air.
Hair and make up is always done before leaving the house but I do touch it up when I get in. Oh - I carry water too which helps to cool down and get a seat where possible. Not always easy but very welcome!! When I stand up for my entire journey - I look more frazzled then.
