To think infuencers shouldn't be able to get away with advertising junk food to children

Zoella is getting away with breaking the high fat and sugar advertising rules because when people sign up to YouTube the age is self certified so children often say over 18 to get access to restricted content.

Shouldn't the ASA go after people like her and the flaw in the system?

What a child watches should be monitored by the parents. If a child is watching +18 content then that is an epic parenting fail. There is a children's you tube which may be more suitable.

These kid of videos do appear on the YouTube kids app!

It's not 18+ content, it's them saying less then 25% are children so they are allowed to advertise junk food

Agreed. If a child is left to their own devices as regards confirming their age on the internet, exposure to nutella adverts is the least of your worries.

The point is it would appear to be kid friendly content, but it's getting round the advertising regulations so lots are unknowingly viewing it.

When it comes to teens and their own phones and tablets how many actually know what they are watching on YouTube?

To be fair to the OP, Zoella is considered 'family friendly' by YouTube and will appear unrestricted.

That said, I do agree that YouTube viewing should be monitored and, ultimately, if it's you that does the shopping then you're in control of what they eat. When I was a kid (I know, I know, everybody hates a sentence that starts like that!), there were no restrictions on what they advertised to children, there were sweets at every supermarket checkout and we just got told 'no' (most of the time!)
