To consider eating beef which went out of day yesterday?

It’s a piece of beef in the packaging we bought it in, unopened, and looks pink and perfectly ok.

I usually wouldn’t risk eating out of date meat especially now as I am 39 weeks pregnant but it looks ok... so if it smells ok... would you eat it? In particular, would you consider eating it if you were pregnant?

It’s just annoying as we only bought it on Sunday but I didn’t check the date ‘til now otherwise I would have cooked it or frozen it 🤦‍♀️

Without a thought I would eat it. It did not go out of date, it is one day past its best before date, these dates are crackers, you would know very clearly if meat was off

FiveRedBricks · 06/02/2019 16:56

It's fine to eat if it smells ok and you cook it properly.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 06/02/2019 16:56

I'd eat it

Gingerkittykat · 06/02/2019 16:56

Beef is generally fine for a few days after it's use by date, in fact the best beef steaks are those which have been matured for weeks!

If it smells fine then use it.

theworldistoosmall · 06/02/2019 16:56

I would eat it. But then a lot of produce I buy doesn't come with dates on as they are packaged. I go by looks and smell.

Refilona · 06/02/2019 16:56

100%, just make sure you cook it well if you’re a bit worried.

Nodrama999 · 06/02/2019 16:59

It’s only white meat I would throw without hesitation. Red meat, sniff and cook. It will be fine

Ifangyow · 06/02/2019 17:00

I ate some in a sandwich that went out of date 2 days ago for my lunch. I plan on eating the remaining slices for lunch tomorrow. I feel fine.
It's ok to eat stuff that's a couple of days out of date, honest.

Furrycushion · 06/02/2019 17:01

It will be fine. I wouldn't think twice about it.

Ragwort · 06/02/2019 17:01

Of course I’d eat it, if you buy meat fro the butcher it doesn’t come with ‘eat by’ dates on it, you are expected to use your common sense.

AliceRR · 06/02/2019 17:07

OK if it smells ok, I’ll cook it!

It looks absolutely fine and fresh

Enjoy your dinner Wine but I suppose you can't really be doing with the wine at the minute Grin

RB68 · 06/02/2019 17:37

Its fine - they hang it for a min 10 days and more for the posh stuff - its sealed and been refridgerated so low risk. So long as you don't like it blue

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2019 17:40

If it looks good and most importantly smells good, it is 100% fine.

AliceRR · 06/02/2019 17:41

I’m just a bit extra careful / paranoid since I’ve been pregnant but I think even things like listeria which can affect the baby is down to bacteria where the meat hasn’t been cooked properly and I think you’re all right that I’d be able to see if it were off

PineappleTart · 06/02/2019 17:42

Smells fine then damn right I'd eat it :) enjoy

babysharkah · 06/02/2019 18:07

I wouldn't think twice about it.

Klopptimist · 06/02/2019 18:12

Get it eaten and say it's 29 day hung beef Smile

BayandBlonde · 06/02/2019 18:13

It will be fine. In fact I deliberately leave my meat to start turning dark (not stinky) as I think it's better. Fresh pink meat doesn't have any flavour. IMO

blueshoes · 06/02/2019 18:48

I would cook it without hesitation. I don't tend to look too closely at use by dates but just go by the sniff test. Since you are pregnant, I'd be a little more careful and cook it well done. Enjoy.

TeddyIsaHe · 06/02/2019 18:49

I’ve eaten 100 day aged beef. They had to scrape the mould off before cooking it. It was fecking delicious!

user1486076969 · 06/02/2019 18:49

It'll be fine.
