How do I end it?

So genuine question based on some mad threads I've read about people and their cleaners.

Something has come up and I now really need the £100 per month pay our cleaner,have to cut back on everything and will have time to clean now.

How do I end it? By email? I never see her in person. By phone? I have to give at least a weeks notice which is fine but she also has a key. I'm actually getting worried based on these threads I've read that she'll suddenly decide to steal from us etc if I cancel her in the wrong way.

So how do I do it?! I'm thinking email but no idea how to word it. I don't want to say I can't afford it anymore.

Just phone her

Phone her and then follow up the call with an email so you are also giving notice in writing. On the call, ask her where will she leave the key, assuming she doesn't need it to lock up, and confirm those arrangements in your email too.

personally I'd go with the white lie here , i'd contact in writing by text or email better as would be normal, saying something along lines of unfortunately as circumstances have just changed for the next few months i';ll be at home more and will be in the house during x, so will be able to do the cleaning myself, when i'm back to normal routine, ill get back in touch and hope you will be available, thanks for all your hard work and if you need a reference i'm very happy to provide it, can you leave the key x when you do your last clean on x date, if don't make it sound like its forever and I cant see why cleaner would suddenly go maverick if they thought possibility of work in future and reference.
