So tired all the time

I work part time which is mainly weekends and two evenings a week and care for my disabled 18 year old dd. I have no weekends anymore due to work and my days are off in the week.
I would like at least one of the weekend days as my own but I doubt I would be allowed as it's a retail job.
I get no respite and still have to keep up with everything else eg housework and medical appointments.

Think I'm having a rant more than anything. I didn't get home till 10.45pm last night and was up 5.30am helping dd.

Have you actually spoken to your employer about your hours? They may be happy to let you have one weekend day off, if not every weekend then alternate weekends maybe. Not all retail jobs require every weekend working so if they're not willing to give any flexibility then maybe look elsewhere. My dd is in retail and does all sorts of weird hours but always has either sat or sun off.

Have a word with your manager outlining what you've stated in your OP. You may find that they will be supportive and arrange for you to have a weekend day off or at least try to make sure you have a weekend day off every so often. Our retail rotas are always worked out fairly so everyone has a weekend or weekend day off at some point.

I have the same set up OP, shifts all over the place including late night Fridays and early start Saturdays and everyday I deal with all the DC's needs and the house, don't get time to recover from sickness, holidays aren't really a break etc etc.

I do keep Sundays protected though and will only work it to do a colleague a favour. This is a new thing though but I do feel a bit better for it.

Will your line manager alter your contract? Shift swap once a month? Anything that blocks off a set time for you to do something you want, even if its binge watching rubbish on the tv uninterrupted.

Currently there going through cutting hours on a few sections but not section is not one of them. I'm in work tomorrow night and will ask them as I've spent the whole evening tonight sleeping which is not good and now effecting dd as I was just to tired to move
She's ok but this cannot go on but I'm afraid I'll be fired or something if I ask. But can only try. Thanks for the replys and I'll update tomorrow how I get on.

Oh and when my manager was sorting my holiday out with me after Xmas she said I would not be able to have weekends off as they need me but everyone else I've spoken to has at least one day off at the weekend. I'll go above her and talk to the hr manager.
