To ask what a "brand rep" is? Is it linked to MLM?

A Facebook friend posts about 2 or 3 times a week about how much she loves these chavvy bespoke glittery bows (for little girl's hair) made by a specific independent business. She has often said if we use a certain discount code (her daughter's name) we'd get 10% off. Which at the time I thought maybe she was a good customer or a friend of the bow makers. But today she's posted a very MLM-like picture of this box of bows with "Wow I can't get enough of these beauties, I'm totally addicted, blah blah blah, 10% off" then used the hashtag #brandrep

What's a brand rep when it's at home? It's all getting very MLM-ish!

I think they get freebies or maybe just discounted items in return for posting pictures of their dd wearing them and referencing the brand on social media. I have a Facebook friend who does similar, lots of poses photos with oversized bows and announcements about the brand.

Like a poor woman's Sam Faiers then?

I don’t know who that is, sorry I live abroad so useless with pop culture!

Usually the person gets a discount for themselves plus a discount code to share (and possibly an extra discount if lots of people order using their discount code) but in return they have to promote the brand to a certain extent eg in at least one photo a week

Usually they will get a certain amount of free stuff and discount on others in exchange for posting about the company. Not really MLM as they don’t buy product to sell onto others. They just advertise the page/product to their friends.

And place a certain number of orders themselves while they’re a rep

Yep, freebies and discounts in exchange for prostituting their kids in photos and posts to advertise the brand.

A brand rep is someone who promotes the brand or does some photo shoots for the brand, the payment is usually discounted products from the brand. It doesn’t tend to be linked to MLM because the rep isn’t actually selling anything and usually doesn’t get a financial gain from their advertising

One of my friends is constantly doing this for different small kids clothing companies, as far as I can tell she gets a small percentage of each sale using her code plus discounted products but she has to do a certain number of posts per week some of just the products and some of her kids wearing them.

I think it’s a bit weird that she’s basically using her kids to sell stuff to her friends and I’m not sure how her kids will feel about it when they’re older.
